Quoting: Weyoun The patsy they choose might have nothing to do with the whole thing, just like Oswald. He'll just be a victim of circumstance. Go ahead and make your blood money. You have become the monster. You "win" not by beating the evil but by joining them. You need to elaborate a little bit, now that you've painted me a monster. Just who are you afraid for in this scenario? Do you know how this system works? Who's your "patsy"? There's a law that no man escapes. No matter how legally robust you think you are. It's called the law of unintended consequences. But YOLO right? So when the victims who regularly get shafted with out notice or concern finally stick it to the shaftees, you well up in tears? I'm afraid I don't follow your concern. A rigged system is getting broken. So one has stuck it to anyone yet and the so called victims are yet to see a cent. |

Well, yes and no. Stock market used to be a Ponzi scheme, but with the introduction of all those new technologies, it's turned into something much, much worse. It's turned into... A Million Mistakes a Second --- Ultrafast computing is critical to modern --- [link to foreignpolicy.com (secure)] The current, hi-tech stock market is a literal battlefield where the latest and the "bestest" of AIs are literally fighting over bits of data. If that's not the very definition of warfare, then I don't know what is. The thing is... if you compare what's happening in the stock market (it's been going sky-high since 2008), and the actual reality (the world economy has been crashing down in a death spiral since that same 2008), the only possible conclusion that anyone with even a trace of a rational mind can draw from such a complete disconnect from reality is: AIs can be just as much delusional and schizophrenic as the craziest of the crazies in a nut house. ... and, given enough rope to hang themselves with, AIs can fall prey to as devastating a panic attack as a soldier in the middle of a battlefield, who's gone completely bonkers from all the shelling, and all the bullets flying all around him, suddenly mindlessly charging the position occupied by his own troops, shooting at his own friends that he's been sharing his lunch with just moments before. When such a shell shock happens to an AI running HFT algorithms... all hell breaks loose... and that can happen faster than even those automatic circuit breakers can prevent. In fact, exactly that has already happened a few times before, and the "solution", the only one that has always been applied to that problem, was the one of "cancelling" all the transaction that occurred after the moment the crash had happened... with, usually, hours or even days having passed since the actual moment of the crash. The thing is... ... what happens when those same "advanced" AIs get used in an actual, time-critical environment, where you don't get the luxury of days, hours, minutes, even seconds of trying to figure out what has just happened... let alone the luxury of "cancelling" the consequences of such, completely uncontrollable chaos? If people should follow U.S. stock market, they should follow it as a case study in complete and utter failures in the use of AIs on a battlefield, and not because that stock market has any connection, whatsoever, to the actual reality that we're all living in. |
