Also, gasoline is almost perfect as a fuel. Lots of energy per gallon, it’s clean, easily transported. You can fill up in a few minutes and drive 400 miles. Electric cars are OK as commuter vehicles. They won’t work as a truck. Smoke me a kipper, I’ll be back for breakfast. It means artificial intelligence.” Kamala Harris VPOTUS |

I'm not celebrating the non-efficiency and non-environmental-friendliness of this development. I've never bought anything new, and by 2035, I'm sorta doubtful I'll be buying anything new-to-me. I will, in all likelihood, be marveling at the durability and versatility of the Honda Element. And bitching that its oil filter should be more easily accessible. |

Just mount a remote filter while you're flexible enough to do so. I'm sure you'll find a way. |

A good, SIMPLE, electric car or truck could be designed, with a range extender trailer or hitch attachment. Something with at most one computer with open source, a panel of steam gauges and totally maintainable for the next 200 years. Something with no unnecessary electronics at all. Of course, if you want it you'll have to DIY. Some states still allow you to register a scratch built car. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79981835 Mine does that, but it's got 355K on the original drive train with minimal maintenance. I'll keep driving it until it's not useful and then switch in the backup car. That one only has 135K on it. Of course, GM realized their mistake and stopped producing that line in 2002. |

Falling down is a part of life, getting back up is living. ~ Life is about choices, you get to make them each and every day of your life. ~ Capitalization is the difference between helping your Uncle Jack off a horse and helping your uncle jack off a horse.~ Only in America... do we use the word 'politics' to describe the process so well: 'Poloi' in Greek meaning 'many' and 'tics' meaning 'bloodsucking creatures'.~ “When a government is dependent for money upon the bankers, they and not the government leaders control the nation. Synopsis: My first video blog in a series about complex engineering marvels that are going to change the world in the (near) future. This week's piece? Micro gas turbines being used as generators to recharge electric drive trains in commercial vehicles. |

We're a long ways away from Leafs and Imevs. Quoting: CosmicFire Except the devastation it has on the environment. Drilling for oil is much safer and cheaper. Smiles everytime you whack the gas pedal. try driving a mitsubishi lancer evo for the same effect. Plenty of high performance cars without a fraction of the problems Tesla's have. Also any mechanic can work on gas engines, elon will not share repair information with the auto repair community, like every other car manufacture does |

But it's still an automobile. Nuts and bolts hold it together, wrenches take it apart. Nothing exotic about the motor or batteries, either. Tesla is a new car company, and is learning as they go. Part of the game. Every manufacturer ends up with a little egg on their face with new models. |

Batteries won't last and range will be trash. Gasoline and diesel are king Batteries do last. There's quite a few 2012 Volts in the 200k-400k mile range, with no appreciable range loss. My '13 Volt just hit 150,000 and I'm not seeing any issues from the battery. It was a mother fucker to put a radiator in, though. |

It's more readily available than nearly anything on earth and proof of concept vehicles have already been tested. It's also as clean as can be. The main source will be splitting hydrogen from water, leaving oxygen as the only byproduct |
