Everyone does this nowadays. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 78825290 United States 01/31/2021 01:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I wish I would have found a martial art and trained when I was younger. I was too busy trying to be rockstar lol. Quoting: ConcernedHuman I started watching mma about 3 years ago and I fell in love with it. I know “gay!” But it’s the only sport I’ve ever been a true fan of. I got a heavy bag about 2 years ago and I have been hitting it ever since. I’m no pro or anything and would never claim to be a martial artist but I’ve come a long way in the last 2 years. I would love to have an amateur fight some day before I’m 40. What about you?! What’s you’re martial art story? Go find a gym where you can train and learn from legit coaches. Alot of people do it just for excercise and fun, you don't have to fight. After a year or so of training you will know if you actually want to fight. Just a heavy bag at home with no experience isn't the best idea. Its good excercise but you're most likely learning bad form. It will be harder to unlearn bad form than to start from scratch. |

If you can find a Sambo school, they focus on leg locks. Striking is for younger guy's if you arent already a puncher. trust me BJJ or Sambo will even things up a big. |

MMA is fake as any other sport, been caught rigging too many fights. But it isn't just marital arts, it all has to do with how good your fighting skills are. Besides being rigged, the only real difference between traditional contact karate or contact martial arts is grappling. If you cannot grapple or wrestle, you will be sent home with your tail between your legs. In full contact fighting watching rigged fighting on TV isn't going to do it for you. |

I’d fight a guy who wrestles it grapples. I’m sure I’d lose but all I said is I wanna have 1 fight, I didn’t say I had to win it haha! I want the truth. We all deserve it. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 79006104 Canada 01/31/2021 01:29 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I did American Kenpo training. Private training at age 9 and finished top of my class before age 10. I gained all their belts, all their training. I got my golden gloves when I was 17 in Boston, Massachusetts. Brockton is where it was at. I wasn't allowed to go further, my momma told me not to lol. I know wrestling. I beat some Greco Roman wrestler champ when I was a teen. He was top of his class too. I met Randy Couture before. Really nice guy. I was paid to train some of the early mma fighters that rose up in ranks of mma. It was fun. I did it from home here in Canada. I've been in about 30 street fights. All KO'd by me. I never got caught for nearly paralyzing three people. Broke my lower knuckle on one guy's face. They were all bigger than me. Oh, I don't have a dream. If you can fight. You don't have to show it. The fighters will find you instead. |

outrageously buttery User ID: 79514438 United States 01/31/2021 01:29 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | some of these bro-tards are onto something...fighters are fighters-it's the way their brains are wired, just differently than normal people...it's not natural to want to get punched in the face; bjj is great because in my experience, it is the most consistently physical of the fighting/sport arts. I love karate (noob black belt), but prior to the planned-demic, we'd spar every other week. It was cool, but you're talking sparring with people older, younger, healther, stronger, slower, smaller, etc...and you have to be really careful to make sure you don't break somebody's grandmother, destroy a teenager, or bust a lawyer's face the week of a case. bjj, on the other hand-every class, putting your hands on people; choking, getting choked; arms, legs, you get the occasional punch/elbow/knee/shot to the baws, but the physicality of rolling and working on your grips, flexibility, balance, domination, recovering from bad positions-that IS class. Warm-up, technique, ROLL. I find myself skipping classes if my head isn't in a 'fighty' kind of place. At the end of the day, find something you like and stick with it (the people, your coach, location); it's going to cost you $ and you won't use it on the streets. BUT, if you were to get into a street confrontation, many people do wild, looping roundhouse punches toward the side of your chin. Regular joes don't know how to throw punches...but if they connect with a wild punch, it can still break your skull-and that's before their friends jump on your head. The most effective methods on the street are quick, brutal, and not honor bound (knees, elbows, Oh-my-BAWS!!!, eyes, necks), and don't involve closed fists like asshole movie stunt fights.
