Doing the math of the slave traders archival records estimate the actual number of Africans brought to America was around 800,000+ over the span of slave trading. Yes African slaves were used in agriculture in the south but they didn't open the west, fill the ranks of our military or build the railroads. Yes there were individuals noted in history such as William Picket.

Historically speaking their where slaves in America for 20 years before the first African slaves arrived, that one of the greatest revision of history. Cotton really was a cash crop and major American export. In colonial times, grand manpower was the only way to cultivate it on a mass scale. Ditto for sugarcane in the Caribbean.
