Re: I think today is the day I abandon Flat Earth. (LONG POST sorry not sorry.)
Not a flat earther, here, but just tonight I had a thought... Like, what if the earth is not flat, but just WAY BIGGER than we have been taught. That’s what I got. Here’s what else: the section of the (HUGE) planet that we inhabit is “gamified.” It is like the movie Westworld. People (and other species) come here to play the Game. They pay to play. But in the gamespace of Earth there are flesh and blood people, not digital. The players can somehow have their consciousnesses inserted into the bodies in the gamespace. And some of the players are natural-born humans with their birth consciousness intact. There is a lot of compound, complex suffering because the real people in the gamespace do not understand what’s going on. Also, the Game was hacked into by extremely cruel players and has been kept going much longer than is feasible or humane, causing much damage to everything and everyone.

When you leave this gamespace there is a big icewall that separates it from the rest of the planet. Elsewhere on the planet, products from the earth farm are sold. Human biological products, like blood plasma, hormones, meat. There are other space races residing on other parts of this huge planet, with their own territories, governments and civilizations. There may still be wildernesses and places where there are indigenous species.

I will agree with you, in book it's either flat or as you say, a lot, lot bigger than we have been led to believe.

That is why there is not one photograph of the earth.
Even for globies that should be a red flag to a road of lies.

OP is a fucking moran to have ever believed in flat earth to begin with. It's laughable how stupid the concept is given all of the logical proof of a round planet.

Must have been born after 1990 because I haven't met a person born after that date that has critical thinking skills.

If everybody became a flat-earther, the flat-earthers would just swap sides and proclaim it's a globe.

That's all flat-earthers are...trolls and dolly donuts

I just want to say that I'm not a shill. I'm not a troll (at least not in this post, I do plenty of trolling though.) I'm just a dude that may have gotten too caught up in the internet.

On to the topic at hand:

My biggest question with the ball earth has always been sound and I couldn't make it make sense in my head. Well...Astro just did it. The explanation is below.

I have been saying for a few years, and it's my tag line, that "I want the truth. We all deserve it." I have been a "flat earther" for so many years now. I have been on the bandwagon of every popular flat earther and just as many unpopular ones. The problem with me is that I never looked at opposing viewpoints long enough to understand them. I would just say "well that doesn't make sense to me so it must be false." That is very unfair to myself. If I am blasted with the truth and I ignore it, that doesn't make me any better than the people who are actually lying. I have to be honest with myself. I have to take in the evidence I've been presented. I have to process it. Then I have apply to my own thoughts and my own conditioning and my own flaws. This isn't only true about flat earth but literally everything in my life.

This is my coming out party essentially. I am emerging from the flat earth closet and I'm admitting that I think I was wrong. God dammit, my fuckin friends are going to bust my balls when I come clean with them. LOL. It's hard admitting I'm wrong because I, like many flat earthers, have been mean and rude in my defense of my belief. I will have to apologize to the ones I was rude to. I will have to show them why I decided to change my mind. I will have to humble myself. That is never an easy pill to swallow.

Astromut, I hope you don't mind me posting this in it's own thread. If I'm violating some rule by doing so, by all means, get rid of it. I think you get so much shit from so many people that come at you hot and you reply in kind. When I approached you I did it with an open mind and with respect. Because of that, I believe, you took time out of your life to explain to me why I'm most likely wrong. I can't argue it. I won't anymore.

And Astro, here's to raising this glass to the 1 in a billion chance we both end up on that rocket with a billionaire. If it happens...I may ask him (just a few) questions about his role in the illuminati but that's to be expected LOL!

Thanks again.

Is that a pic of ISS?
 Quoting: ConcernedHuman

Yes. My best picture of it yet. Took it early in the Crew-1 mission currently docked to ISS.
And do you have pics of the Tesla? How far away is the Tesla actually from earth?
 Quoting: Concerned

It was nearly 8 times the distance to the moon when I last saw it.

I have a telescope...it's like a 6 year old Orion Starseeker 2. I love to take it out and look at the moon and the stars. In my head, I have no idea what I'm looking at, the way the stars shimmer and the way the edge of the moon is sometimes greenish. It's wild to look at that shit. I wish I had the capability to take pics or record video with it.

I'm gonna ask a question and you can't can not answer, obviously your choice. The biggest thing that I question when it comes to the ball model is sound. I don't understand how I can even hear the sound of me typing this. The earth is spinning at 1000ish mph, it is moving 60,000 ish mph, then the solar system itself is moving hundreds of thousands of mph (if I'm wrong correct me.) I can wrap my head around the notion that we are all moving with the atmosphere.
 Quoting: Concerned

Conservation of angular momentum. The atmosphere is moving (roughly) with the surface of the earth. We share the same momentum. The momentum carried by air across different latitudes (with less rotation towards the poles) causes the rotation of hurricanes and it's why they rotate differently in the northern vs southern hemispheres.

What I can not seem to understand is sound. Sound isn't tangible. It doesn't exist at all until the moment it does. So when anything makes a sound, just given the speed of rotation of the earth the sound shouldn't be able to keep up. Let alone the 60 or so thousand it's moving around the sun. Can you explain how that works? Where am I flawed?
 Quoting: Concerned

Sound is our perception of pressure waves moving through air. The speed of sound is relative to the mass of air it's moving through.
My wife is dying for me to make a donation to St Jude and apply for the space trip later this year. The one I asked you about earlier. I told her there is NO WAY they would ever accept me. But she's tired of my view on it. Help me help her LOL. Make sound make sense and I could jump ship in an instant.
 Quoting: Concerned

I threw a few bucks to it, might as well have my name in the hat. It's for a good cause. You should try for it, I'd love to see a flat earther get in that capsule.
 Quoting: Astromut

Seriously, thanks for that. I haven't yet, but as soon as I get a free second I'm going to watch the vid. I appreciate the time you took to reply to all of that.

LOL ya know what, I have the extra money to donate and for the chance to prove the ball to me sitting next to the famous Dr.Astro...fuckin' worth it to me haha.

Thanks again brother.
 Quoting: ConcernedHuman

It’s still flat. Had you no proof the earth was flat?? Do you now believe that the atmosphere gets drug around a spinning ball? And do you believe at its outer edge it is moving faster than it is on the surface? Why is NASA faking space scenes with hair spray?

I never meant it to sound like I just flipped. I have been doubting my belief for a while now and it took a weird catalyst of actually forcing myself to understand how sound works in order to really pull the curtain back and look at ALL evidence that is available to me.

I, now, believe there is a ton of evidence that supports the globe that I FLAT (<---of course pun intended) out ignored. I honestly never even watched or listened to people debunking it until recently. I had no need to because I "knew" it was flat. But as I grow and as I question myself, not only on this, I find more and more pieces of the puzzle that seem to lead to it being a globe.

I still believe NASA lies. Every part of government contains liars, thieves and pieces of garbage. Does that mean the earth is flat...probably not. But honestly it could...I truly don't know I just am done believing it so blindly. I won't do it to myself anymore.

And again, I am not a physicist or a mathematician in any way. I don't understand the numbers behind it and for so long...because I didn't understand it, in my mind it was fake or impossible. That is a huge disservice to myself. Instead of trying to understand it I would just dismiss it. Dammit, if that didn't make me weak. It made me follow people due to my own insecurities and my own shortcomings. And listen...admitting this is hard for me to do. I kinda hate it.

I love thinking about this. I always go back to Admiral Byrd and him saying that he found a mass of unexplored land. Now that I think about it...he did refer to Antarctica as "the bottom of the world" which does, to me, lend credibility to it being a globe. But what if it is much larger and there are other intelligent beings on this same planet just in a different part of it. It's wild to dive in to.

Thanks for the comment!!!

Lots of words and no substance.

There is no definitive proof the earth is a ball.

It looks flat, no matter how high up you go.

The sun locally heats and illuminates.

Seriously pay attention to the sun, its clearly not 93 million miles away.

OP, you don't need to be a physicist or a mathematician.

If you have a High School graduates understanding of geometry, you'll know that there's is NO WAY! you could have the know empirical observations of daylight in the month of December....

14+ hours of daylight in Melbourne Australia (58% of a 24 hr day)
15+ hours of daylight in Dunedin, New Zealand (62% of a 24 hr day)
17+ hours of daylight in Ushuaia, Argentina (70% of a 24 hr day)

based on a FE model.

FlatEarthMod2

Observations of daylight is the most fundamental of evidence in explaining the physical world in which we live. FE fails badly at this.

I am not a smart man. I never took geometry. I somehow flaked out and my highest math was algebra 2 which honestly...I still have no idea how to find what X equals LOL.

But on a globe earth does the daylight hours have to do with the tilt of earth? And in the same breath on a flat earth, wouldn't the hours of daylight depend on the speed of the sun??

I'm saying it is impossible to have 17+ hours of daylight on a flat earth in southern most part of the earth. With 24 hours in a day, that's more than 2/3rds of a 24 hour day. That's more than 2/3rds of the circle of a flat earth being illuminated.

A valid model of earth must account for daylight observations for all places on earth, for all 24 hrs, for all 365 days out of the year. Completely impossible on a flat earth.

A spherical earth, tilted 23 degrees orbiting the sun explains all daylight observations without exception.

Flat earth is for adults with a grade school public education. Every flat earth tard I know doesn't even have a high school diploma.

This is a bullshit reply. Sorry dude.

I know plenty of flat earthers that have higher education than myself...and I did graduate high school. Never went further than that but regardless...education means little when you're talking about intelligence. Not to say I'm intelligent, I'm not, but there are plenty of flat earthers who are.

I read stuff like that and I don't even know where to begin. Having a HS degree today must not mean much because we covered basic stuff back in the "old" days. OP, you should sue your old schools.

I always used to hate when people would ask me why it can be daylight in china but we can't see the sun from here and my response was "if I shine a flash light in the walmart parking lot why can't I see if from my house?" I was very flawed here especially when, at this moment, thinking of more than 2/3rds the globe being lit by the sun. On a flat earth, if 2/3rds of the land was lit by the sun, wouldn't it, the sun, honestly be visible from anywhere else on the flat earth? 2/3rds is a lot. If you were at one end of a parking lot and I was at the other and you shined a light big enough to illuminate 2/3rds of the lot, there is no where in that lot I could to not see the light source. I know the scale in this scenario is way off and I am not trying to argue. I am just looking at this rationally for the first time.
