Anonymous Coward User ID: 77020092 United States 02/11/2021 02:43 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Who out there in glp land is getting hammered by this lastest winter storm doom? Quoting: Roadkill Bill I'm in KY, right on the impact zone of what the forecasters and media are calling an emergency situation. We are expected up to 1" of ice thru tomorrow afternoon. Ppl around here have been in a state of near panic for the last 2 days in preparation for this "event" that was scheduled to kick in significantly last night. Well.....this morning we have nothing outside but a bit of sprinkles thru the early morning hours with temps above freezing (so far). The radar is showing a clearing but yet travel restrictions are planned for this afternoon and the alerts are still going out. We have been told that power outage are expected, and will last for several days. On top of that, the temps are supposed to drop down to near 0 by Sunday. It's scaring the old people and causing panic buying everywhere! So, my question is.... Who is getting hit by this "monster" winter storm because it's not us (so far)? Read about days ago.For REAL. |

Interstate 65 which I can see from my home has light traffic, but it's moving along fine. Power is on here, but a mile or so past our home people are reporting power out. So we weren't impacted as bad as I had feared. Going to attempt to make it to the office soon. Lady Jaded |

Forecast called for 3/4" - 1". Looks like the storm is moving south of my location with Bowling Green in it's sights. The roads here are impassable for now. Be careful |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77654754 One model has Houston at 6 degrees Monday morning and 2 degrees on Tuesday morning. Record low here was in 1899 and it was 5 degrees. We have up to two feet of snow forecast for North east Texas. One model says 6-10 inches and the other 16-23 inches. Low temp of 5 degrees and a high in the fucking teens. Going to be a lot of business for plumbers, and firemen. Either way, I'm glad I still have my old snowmobile and kept in in running order, these parts have never seen a snowplow. Where are you seeing this??? I live in Hunt County and see only 1-3 inches forecast for Monday. I saw it on the local news out of Shreveport La. They presented data from two sources ; the national weather service and the the so called "european model". Looking over this precipitation forecast and taking into consideration 1 inch of rain equals 10-15 inches of snow at 15 degrees, based on my own experience i'd say they are right IF it does get as cold as expected. [link to weather.rap.ucar.edu] DFW is an ice rink this morning. Accidents everywhere. And our updated forecast is indeed for 3 to 6 inches of snow Sunday into Monday. |

User ID: 76578598 United States 02/11/2021 10:15 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm in Alaska. It was -20 here 2 days ago. 15 now. Quite nice. Got 10 inches of snow in the last 18 hours. Not a big deal. Life goes on. Not sure why so many people freak out when it gets cold or icy Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79800909 I used to live in Anchorage. The answer is simple: The deep south does not have the equipment to manage ice and snow as Alaska does. The houses are also not built to keep in heat, but to stay cooler during the hot summers -- no triple pane windows, no R-100 insulation. It would be like taking you, right now, plopping your ass in 105 degree temps with 90% humidity, in full mid-day sun, and calling you a wimp for sweating. Then wondering why you are so damned wimpy when you learn a Cat 1 is inbound. Real Southerners stand outside in a Cat 1 to recharge. Amen, we also live in more populated areas so it makes things much more treacherous getting out and about. |

Also in the "Doom Path". We had a thunderstorm around 6am, all rain. No ice. Then around 8am the temp must have dropped a bit, because a little bit of ice, a skim coat, has formed on tree twigs, cars, and fencing. The roads are wet, but unfrozen. For us, this is supposed to be over in an hour or two. It has been a big nothingburger. |

Quoting: M R E Looked like the Southern part of WV had something like 50,000 without power, i think they got mostly ice? WV has got to be the hardest place to forecast weather because in 5 minutes everything can change. Especially everything south of 119. I've seen simple rain showers turn to massive flash floods there. Wind storms turn to microbursts and small tornadoes, and "light dusting" of snow turn to complete white out conditions. I love that state! But the weather is anything but predictable. |

Can’t get any sun to melt this disgusting snow. And when there is snow it comes out for three minutes and gone for the rest of the day. Blocking out the sun turns the air much colder now it’s snowing instead of raining. I fucking hate it tbh. How can people live in Seattle is beyond me. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78858041 Agreed! |

Sterling KY around 1AM, they were already working up the road on it by 2, but it was around 6AM before it came back on. We've lost a lot of tree limbs and our road is ice covered. They're saying it is getting too cold for the salt to help, so I'm planning to stay in until tomorrow anyway. I hope y'all are staying warm and safe!
