So the wiki pedia link to John Calhoun and his theory of Behavioral think talks about his studies of mice and Universe 25. It also states,

WTH!!

"Mrs. Brisby enters the rose bush and encounters an aggressive guard rat named Brutus, who chases her away. She is led back in by Mr. Ages, and is amazed to see the rats' use of electricity and other technology.

She meets Justin, the friendly captain of the guard; Jenner, a ruthless, power-hungry rat opposed to Nicodemus; and finally Nicodemus himself. From Nicodemus, she learns that many years ago her husband, along with the rats and Mr. Ages, were part of a series of experiments at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). The experiments boosted their intelligence, enabling them to escape, as well as extending their lifespans and slowing their aging process. However, they are unable to live only as rats, and need human technology to survive, which they have accomplished only by stealing.

The rats have concocted "The Plan", which is to leave the farm and live independently in Thorn Valley. Nicodemus gives Mrs. Brisby an amulet, and tells her it will awaken when the wearer is courageous."

 Quoting: Cebeij

You're correct, it would be a phenomenon that would happen particularly in densely populated areas.
And even then it doesn't apply to every densely populated area...
I personally live in the most populated city on the european continent, and the density in my "county" is higher than paris (and over 3 times higher population density than New York), yet there's less violent crime than in Paris (and I'm not in an area with a particularly good reputation)
Yes i've lived in Paris, hell in France i've lived in worse places with a low population density.

And I don't think it has anything to do with alcohol consumption (nor religion) as there's a shitton of alcoholics here (and the reality is a lot less people who practice their given religion than one would expect)...

I don't think it's to do with illegal immigrants, there's loads of syrians here (though they do probably commit a majority of the crimes overall here).

Even during the "Pandemic" there was never a lack of food to buy, nothing was missing here, so it's not access to food.

The one different thing here though compared to Paris for example, is the abundance of restaurants and shops in general, and the lower cost of living (for a metropolitan area)

Yes I've thought about "universe 25" a lot especially since I moved to Istanbul, and was trying to understand why people live "more in Harmony" here (don't get me wrong it's far from a "Hamony Utopia" lol lot's and lot's of angry people and dickheads)

Re: Universe 25
Behavioral sink

"Behavioral sink" is a term invented by ethologist John B. Calhoun to describe a collapse in behavior which can result from overcrowding. The term and concept derive from a series of over-population experiments Calhoun conducted on Norway rats between 1958 and 1962.[1] In the experiments, Calhoun and his researchers created a series of "rat utopias" – enclosed spaces in which rats were given unlimited access to food and water, enabling unfettered population growth. Calhoun coined the term "behavioral sink" in his February 1, 1962 report in an article titled "Population Density and Social Pathology" in Scientific American[2] on the rat experiment.[3] He would later perform similar experiments on mice, from 1968 to 1972.

Calhoun's work became used as an animal model of societal collapse, and his study has become a touchstone of urban sociology and psychology in general.[4]

In the 1962 study, Calhoun described the behavior as follows:

Many [female rats] were unable to carry pregnancy to full term or to survive delivery of their litters if they did. An even greater number, after successfully giving birth, fell short in their maternal functions. Among the males the behavior disturbances ranged from sexual deviation to cannibalism and from frenetic overactivity to a pathological withdrawal from which individuals would emerge to eat, drink and move about only when other members of the community were asleep. The social organization of the animals showed equal disruption. ...

The common source of these disturbances became most dramatically apparent in the populations of our first series of three experiments, in which we observed the development of what we called a behavioral sink. The animals would crowd together in greatest number in one of the four interconnecting pens in which the colony was maintained. As many as 60 of the 80 rats in each experimental population would assemble in one pen during periods of feeding. Individual rats would rarely eat except in the company of other rats. As a result extreme population densities developed in the pen adopted for eating, leaving the others with sparse populations.

In the experiments in which the behavioral sink developed, infant mortality ran as high as 96 percent among the most disoriented groups in the population.[5]

Calhoun retired from NIMH (National Institute of Mental Health) in 1984, but continued to work on his research results until his death on September 7, 1995.[6]

The experiments

Calhoun's early experiments with rats were carried out on farmland at Rockville, Maryland, starting in 1947.[7]

While Calhoun was working at NIMH (National Institute of Mental Health) in 1954, he began numerous experiments with rats and mice. During his first tests, he placed around 32 to 56 rodents in a 10 x 14-foot case in a barn in Montgomery County. He separated the space into four rooms. Every room was specifically created to support a dozen matured brown Norwegian rats. Rats could maneuver between the rooms by using the ramps. Since Calhoun provided unlimited resources, such as water, food, and also protection from predators as well as from disease and weather, the rats were said to be in "rat utopia" or "mouse paradise", another psychologist explained.[8]

Following his earlier experiments with rats, Calhoun would later create his "Mortality-Inhibiting Environment for Mice" in 1972: a 101-inch square cage for mice with food and water replenished to support any increase in population,[9] which took his experimental approach to its limits. In his most famous experiment in the series, "Universe 25", population peaked at 2,200 mice and thereafter exhibited a variety of abnormal, often destructive behaviors. By the 600th day, the population was on its way to extinction.[7]

Applicability to humans

See also: Model organism

Controversy exists over the implications of the experiment. Psychologist Jonathan Freedman's experiment recruited high school and university students to carry out a series of experiments that measured the effects of density on behavior. He measured their stress, discomfort, aggression, competitiveness, and general unpleasantness. He declared to have found no appreciable negative effects in 1975. Researchers argued that "Calhoun's work was not simply about density in a physical sense, as number of individuals-per-square-unit-area, but was about degrees of social interaction."[13]

Yes harmony isn't a great word it's the only one I could come up with.
Yes that would be correct, It's simple people just ignore each other and stay in small groups of maybe 5 people max.

Another thing that is different would be Male and Female dynamics, the men here don't really have any pride (when it comes to interaction with females) and don't mind rejection, even though men are raised like little kings in this culture

They basically just ask if the woman wants to sleep with them, the women say no, they will try and insist a little, even offer money, and then just walk away if the woman says no again.

Though the major violent crime here is most likely spouse killing (men more than females, but females do still do it). They only acquire that pride when they get married.

But you can walk around in the middle of the night here and not be bothered (population density of my county is 3 times higher than NYC)

People only get into arguments while driving, but it very rarely goes into road rage mode.
