All of these elements represent Jesus for whom all things were made. From an ancient near east perspective, which is the perspective of the writer of Ezekiel, the four living creatures represent the basic elements of the universe as they were understood then and probably still mean the same thing today. These cherubim did nothing else besides praise and give glory to God constantly which basically says that all of creation declares the glory of God. The repeat of the four living creatures in Revelation reflect the fulfillment of these prophecies of Isa, Daniel, Ezek, etc, and written by John the revelator in symbolic form, like code, because he was in exile at the time and had to speak to the churches in the language they would understand. John 1:1 explains that everything in creation is a reflection, an image of Jesus/God manifest. We are created in the Image of God. |
