I think we are in a perfect position right now, both philosophically and geographically for separation. This can be achieved LEGALLY by having a National Constitutional Convention. The goal of this Convention will be to dissolve the federal government in its present configuration(keeping the Bill of Rights off the table in the process) and then creating autonomous regional governments, each with their own federal governments and state boundaries remaining intact. All current federal debts and obligations including social security and military pay and benefits would be transferred to the regional federal governments. This is doable in my view and should be done.
