Any numbers for the rest of the places affected by this storm?

My prayers are for no lives lost, but, sadly. I believe that the prayers will fall on the deaf ears of God as our country, our world have become so decadent...why let it continue. As His reply is 'I knew you no

It is 9 here is San Antonio. Coldest I can ever remember and the power is out in my area. This could get interesting if is off for a long period of time.

Oregon has had over 200,000 customers without power for at least a day - weather tough there too.

wow, that is more outages then the whole population of WV!

I know businesses are included for TX but i would guess about 20% of the population of TX is without power! just a guess on my part, weather channel shows Dallas area temp at 6 degrees, -15 with the wind!
would rather have it & not need it then need it & not have it

Hi Beeches,

Love your posts!

I live in Texas and some of the outages are deliberate.
They do not have enough electricity in Texas now.
So, deliberate, rotating outages from 30 minutes to an hour are being implemented across central Texas.

great link

from it:

The power grid, which can be described as the largest, most complex machine ever built, involves an intricate network of power lines crisscrossing neighborhoods and open country, over mountains and through cities, which has evolved over the last century to supply consumers with safe, reliable, and affordable electricity.

Literally millions of miles of power lines span the United States in a complex series of “highways”. There are three, large segments of the U.S. power: the Western Interconnection, Eastern Interconnection and Texas Interconnection. These three segments are staffed with people behind the scenes who carefully monitor the demand of electricity and make sure it’s delivered to where it needs to go at that moment in time.

does this mean Texas is connected enough to get needed power from the other 2 interconnections?

I am concerned about this for a few reasons. My youngest daughter (military) is currently in Hawaii. She is being transferred to the Houston area.

Oldest daughter flew to Hawaii to help her get packed and wrangle the dogs and cats that will be flying with them to LAX tomorrow.

My wife will be leaving here from Nor Cal in a couple of hours to drive down to L.A. to pick them up. Then their plan is to head to Houston on I-10.

Besides the obvious road conditions issue, I am worried about what they will find when they get there. Daughter has a house already rented and ready for them, but it is currently vacant. I assume the water and power is turned off, but what kind of damage might there be since nobody is there to take care of the place?
What the Hell?...

My house in Pilot Point has one rather small gas heater that uses an electric blower. We've been using 3 space heaters to keep the house at 60. With these rolling blackouts, I'm running the gas heater's blower with an inverter hooked to the battery out of my truck while the power is out and charging the battery when we have power.
Seems like we're getting a half hour of power then a half hour without.

LOL, you are worried about horses in 16 degree temp?!? Hahahah, that's NOTHING, up here it's been -30 to -35 Fahrenheit and we went for an after supper walk to visit the neighbors horses who did actually needed blankets. Yours will love the cool Temps.
