Different countries would correlate to different parts of his human form, spleen, liver, heart, stomach, etc. And depending on his mental and physical state, different parts of the world would reflect those said parts and faculties of him. Perhaps why both the North and South Pole are frozen, the North representing his enlightened/ God chakra, and the South Pole representing His animus/ base devil chakra.
