Other than finding another sucker to pay you $1 more than you paid for it, where is the value in BTC?
And don't say the "distributed ledger", or the "blockchain". Those are available for close to free in a million different places.
So what does your $52,000 actually buy?

The massive difference you are overlooking is the length of the chain (which increases the security and reliability) and the network effect. BTC is essentially the largest computing power on the planet. The ability to store wealth on and use the network for secure transactions is what you are buying. Joe Shmoes custom crypto is nowhere close just because he has a blockchain with 5 nodes. And even disregarding all the technical stuff. It is worth it simply because enough people have agreed that it is. JUST LIKE USD. USD is backed by nothing but a threat of violence. Moving off the gold standard changed everything to faith based instead of tangible. Bottom line - if you don't believe in it, don't convert any fiat into crypto. Nobody is forcing you (yet). It's not necessary to piss on others who are happily using and trading it.
