Re: Bitcoin Keeps Hitting New Highs as Crypto Mania Accelerates
Ill say it again. If crypto currency is to replace our worthless dollar, a question. If the bitcoin is worth $52,000 worthless dollars, isn't is value worthless? So if you think it will replace the dollar, how will you spend it? My guess, the bitcoin will not actually be used in transactions. Rather, A paper currency with bitcoin as its base will be used. Like silver and gold certificates at one time for the dollar. It was ill be odd as its value fluctuates wildly. So your $100 bitcoin certificate may drop or shoot up while standing in line to buy your groceries. It maybe a CC bitcoin account. Oh and BTW, how is its value determined? I realize the dollars value changes with economic cycles, inflation etc. However, you don't see 20-50% alterations over days. I smell a pyramid scam. Dip your bread in the gravy while its warm and bail. Or not. It just smells.

You can value anything in anything. Currently, gold is trading at a price of 35,000 squirrel farts.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 2492899

No you can value bitcoin in squirrel farts because like squirrel farts, bitcoin is nothing, it not even smells. On the other hand, especially silver has immense worth and can decide if you live or die. Of course if you value you're life at zero or nothing, then I agree Silver will be worthless for you.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79992277

Who says I don't? I have physical gold and silver AND I have Bitcoin. You're missing out purely based on spite at this point. You are so angry that you were wrong years ago when you could have bought cheaper. Even a month ago, you could have bought in cheaper. And you didn't. Now you are externalizing your own self-loathing because you know you fucked up. The sooner you come to terms with it and capitulate, the better off you will be in the long run. $52,000 is still cheap where this is going. We are at the phase of institutional adoption. We're still trading the early adopter phase. But if you want to stay mad, you can stay poor.

That CEO of Micro strategy is 110% all in on bitcoin.
Dude is wicked smart, and he makes very good arguments.
He could be wrong, or he could be right. I guess we'll find out eventually.

Funny thing about these bitcoin headlines, prices move so fast that they're practically obsolete by the time they trickle down to us.

So is Monopoly money and chocolate coins.

The massive difference you are overlooking is the length of the chain (which increases the security and reliability) and the network effect. BTC is essentially the largest computing power on the planet. The ability to store wealth on and use the network for secure transactions is what you are buying.

Joe Shmoes custom crypto is nowhere close just because he has a blockchain with 5 nodes.

And even disregarding all the technical stuff. It is worth it simply because enough people have agreed that it is. JUST LIKE USD. USD is backed by nothing but a threat of violence. Moving off the gold standard changed everything to faith based instead of tangible.

Bottom line - if you don't believe in it, don't convert any fiat into crypto. Nobody is forcing you (yet).

It's not necessary to piss on others who are happily using and trading it.
 Quoting: The Rickest Rick Sanchez

you don't get it, there is real worth and there is worth which people believe in. your belief in fiat or crypto is leading people directly into lala-land or being in lala-land people believe in fiat and crypto. you crypto-tards pose as fighters against the nwo and the current financial system, not realizing that you do not differ in any way. you search for 'riches' which have been defined by your 'makers', you are pumped to the extreme, in fact, YOU ARE THE BUBBLES.

I don't know how a computer works. or a cell phone. Or the internet.

I have the most basic infantile understanding of crypto.

But I know what $ smells like.

Don't feel like you have to understand it to use it to your benefit.

I don't suggest you put your life savings into it. But the smart ones are getting acquainted with it and even making some $ from it.

It's here and it's not going anywhere. When it does collapse or get seized by the tptb EVERYTHING will be seized. Use your time well now.

Re: Bitcoin Keeps Hitting New Highs as Crypto Mania Accelerates

(Bloomberg) -- Bitcoin’s incredible rally shows little sign of abating yet after the token jumped past $52,000 for the first time.

The largest cryptocurrency was little changed in Asian trading Thursday at about $52,100 after a fivefold surge in the past year

Bitcoin’s rally for some is emblematic of speculative froth in financial markets awash with stimulus. The crypto faithful counter that the digital asset is grabbing more mainstream attention, especially after Tesla Inc.’s recent $1.5 billion purchase. MicroStrategy Inc. boosted its convertible debt sale to buy Bitcoin by nearly half to $900 million and cut the coupon to 0%, making it virtually a straight bet on the price of the cryptocurrency.

MicroStrategy’s step is “a warning sign if there ever was one that things are getting out of hand in the crypto world,” Jeffrey Halley, a senior market analyst at Oanda Asia Pacific Pte, wrote in emailed comments.

Others take a different view, contending that demand from institutional investors and companies is set to expand, driving further gains.

“There are a number of reasons why Bitcoin is soaring, but what stands out most is the trend that MicroStrategy started and Tesla popularized: moving institutional balance sheets into Bitcoin to hedge against inflation,” said Nicholas Pelecanos, head of trading at NEM.

Activity in Bitcoin futures suggests traders don’t see a sudden end to the crypto rally, with spreads continuing to widen between the active contract and March futures, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

Shares of Asian crypto-linked companies have advanced, too. Japan’s Monex Group Inc. jumped 11% to hit a 13-year high on Wednesday, while BC Technology Group Ltd. in Hong Kong closed at a record. Both stocks were down Thursday in Asia, though.

JPMorgan Chase & Co. strategists said Bitcoin’s volatility needs to ease to prevent its rally from fizzling. Other commentators see a mania likely to end in a bust akin to the implosion in 2017.

The digital coin’s 60-day realized volatility is around the highest since May last year, though still below the levels seen around the peak of its last boom some three years ago.

The most precious metals you can own are a combination of copper jacketed lead - - and the parts to make it all a useful item. (Brass, Powder, primers, etc....)

Check gunbroker if you think I'm shitting you. A $20 box of small pistol primers is going for $250+ Check the price for powder. Check the price for brass. Check the price for projectiles. It'll eventually sink in to those that aren't dumb as a brick. (Not that you'll be missed.)

Never put all your eggs in one basket.

Re: Bitcoin Keeps Hitting New Highs as Crypto Mania Accelerates
yep and those sea shells were physical and probably still are there. Again, bitcoin has NO PHYSICAL EQUIVALENT AT ALL.

Bitcoin is like you going back to the sea shells barter time and telling the seashell seller that you take 5 seashells for NOTHING. If the seashell seller might have a strange kind of humor, he'd probably give you those 5 seashells cause he recognizes that you've used a lot of thinking-energy to come up with that scam.

I'm trying to follow your logic... Are you saying that your argument here carries ZERO WEIGHT to us because you didn't physically print it out on page and bind it into a book?

Guys, it's simple. Sea shells, tally sticks, interesting rocks, etc, have been used as a medium of exchange in our civilization because we trusted it's scarcity and it's ability to hold value over time. Based on this, one can work and perform a service or produce a good and exchange it with others using a fungible form of exchange. OK, maybe it's not simple... Please do your own research.

Bitcoin has the same qualities as above. That was it's purpose and it's been running for 12 years long. It's a form of digital scarcity with a billion dollar network running under the hood.
