My family came to America in the late 1800's. Some were from Ireland and some from Prussia. No one in my family tree had anything to do with slavery.

Blacks owned slaves, blacks sold other blacks into slavery. How can you say which blacks are owed reparations and which blacks owe reparations? I am all for reparations in the form of a one-way ticket back to Africa. My ancestors died fighting in the Civil War, making their remaining family destitute. All those lives lost fighting to free slaves is reparations enough. Having the opportunity to live in the USA is reparations enough. Some of my Swedish ancestors came to America as indentured servants, where’s my reparations?

Slavery is horrible, and has existed since ancient times. There are people alive today that are currently actual victims of human trafficking. Those are the people we need to help. Not people who were never actual slaves.

If this goes through, then we can say racism is over and never mention slavery again, right? Oh, didn't think so. This is just another payout based on skin color. What would MLK think?
