Sprouting: How I’ve Lost 25 Pounds In 2 Months With No Exercise, For Very Cheap, And The Freshest If Not Healthiest Way Possible
At a visit to the doctor’s office a couple months back i was shocked when the scale read 240. I’ve never weighed that much in my life. The problem is that whole momentum thing. I’d been going in the wrong direction for years. And it’s not that i eat too much. It’s the drinking. But i’ve been able quit that.

I’ve gotten fat before, but never that fat. Before when i was the fattest i ever was, i was probably about 215 around 2005. The way i lost weight then was i came across a book at the library, the American Yoga Association’s Beginner’s Manual. Besides being a blueprint for becoming flexible and strong for your body, the book also discusses all aspects of health, and at one point the author makes the obvious but often overlooked essence of all successful weight loss: in order to lose weight you must burn more calories than you consume.

Obvious but also mind blowing to me. So i followed that path back then. I actually went fully to calorie restriction as not just a way to lose weight, but also as a path to living longer. Everyday i did yoga and then put on an electric ab belt while taking a 45 minute walk that involved steep elevation changes.

At my thinnest i made it to 137 pounds. At that point i started eating more just because i was losing a pound a day and didn’t know where it would end.

Fast forward 15 years and i’m fat, out of shape, my body’s now racked with arthritis. But that visit to the doctor’s office woke me up. I got out my copy of the American Yoga Association’s Beginner’s Manual in order to start trying to do the stretches. While reading it i once again came across the nugget of diet wisdom bestowed above and realized that this book is where i had read that.

So i immediately set out to repeat my feat of 15 years ago and lose weight by restricting/counting calories and doing yoga.

That lasted a week. I’ve since learned i can’t do the stretches. I paid for weeks trying to do that. So i was left with the diet. And that is working.

At first i was just interested in counting calories and eating as healthy as i could--granola, museli, salads, lean meats, etc.

But i ended up going a different path pretty quickly: Sprouting.

I actually first got into sprouting years ago just after my massive weight loss, so i’ve done it before. Also, last year in March and April when everything was shutting down, I spent about $800 buying sprouting trays, lids and jars, as well as 35 pounds of sprouting bean seeds, 35 pounds of salad sprouting seeds, 50 pounds of sprouting peas, 50 pounds of hard red spring berries, and 25 pounds of kamut sprouting seeds. All organic. And all had just been sitting in storage.

But now for the past 2 months, my diet has been almost exclusively the above sprouted seeds. My brother and his wife eat a lot of them too, and i’ve still gone through only maybe 5 percent of the seeds, except for the peas. They’re going a little faster.

I don’t know how you could eat any fresher. Or healthier. And making them takes less than 5 minutes of work in the morning and at night. You can eat the veggie sprouts raw anytime or add them to any food (cooked or raw). You can steam or even just microwave the bean and grain sprouts (i don’t want to hear it about microwaves. All they do is excite water molecules. If you disagree, don’t derail this thread over it please :)).

I decided to eat vegetarian almost completely too just to try to be as healthy as possible. I still eat meat once in awhile, especially to make sure i’m not missing anything nutrient wise. But one thing i think is cool about the way i eat is my odor. Or rather lack of it. And how amazing my skin is. I’ve had adult acne and had a greasy face my whole life. Now i can go days without showering and don’t smell at all and my skin feels amazing.

I bought some milk kefir grains online and make kefir to mix with my grain sprouts. Here’s my typical daily diet:

But first to let you know, I have a kid’s cereal bowl i use for all my meals. Small bowls make smaller portions look bigger and eliminate the need to measure. And remember, you have to consume fewer calories than you’re burning.

Breakfast--kamut and/or wheat sprouts, steamed 2-3 minutes/microwaved 30 secs, with whole milk kefir added to it. You can add a little honey or agave or stevia or whatever if you want. I’ve acquired the taste for plain kefir. Fruit makes an awesome topping

Lunch--pea sprouts mixed with bean sprouts, steamed 5 minutes/microwaved 1 minute. Afterwards, olive oil or something similar added (you need fat with every meal to help feel full and to help your body burn fat).. Also low or zero calorie organic dressings. Walden Farms makes a bunch of zero calorie dressings and barbecue sauces that are good. Or they taste amazing with just salt and pepper. A1 makes them taste awesome lol.

Next Meal--kamut/wheat sprouts again.

Next Meal--same as lunch.

Alternatively, you can mix the peas or beans with the grain sprouts. But if you do this, add the grain sprouts halfway through as they don’t take as long to cook. The texture of mixing grains and beans is amazing.

That’s it. It’s pretty tough at first with the eating fewer calories. At first i was eating muesli and granola for breakfast instead of the grain sprouts. And i was feeling a lot more light headed all day. Once i switched to the grain sprouts, that went away.

Also, don’t torture yourself. What i’ve learned to enjoy is just small amounts of junk food you like. Eating just one McDonald’s french fry is amazing. In fact, eating like this makes all crappy food taste unbelievable because you’re not overloading your taste buds with it all the time. Get a little piece of chocolate and nibble on it.

In fact i do eat candy everyday. I haven’t been smoking weed for awhile, but i tired Delta 8 recently and love it. Waaaay better than Delta 9. Doesn’t make you tired or dumb but gives you energy. awesome. But that’s for another thread. Point is, i probably eat about 200 day in calories from the delta 8 gummies i have.

But i’m still losing about half a pound a day. I started weighing myself a few days after I started the diet. I’ve gone from 231 to 204 since December 21st. I got a scale on Amazon for under $30 that connects to your phone so your weight is automatically tracked. Nothing is more motivating than seeing your weight drop. That’s how you get momentum going in the right direction

Anyway, if you made it this far, thanks for reading. If you have any questions or whatever, i’ll keep checking back on this thread.

Take care!

also along the lines of not torturing yourself. if you are really hungry, have a fifth meal or even a little bigger portion size. this food is nutrient rich and full of healthy complex carbs and/or protein. just remember to drink lots of water, especially after you eat, to help you feel full. and your body takes about half an hour after you eat to actually feel full. so if the portion leaves you hungry, at least wait a bit before getting more food. chances are, you'll forget to eat again.

Make some essene bread with it.
I make a big loaf and cut it into servings.
I'll eat one for breakfast. One as a snack.
I add dried fruits to it, to make it interesting.
I use sprouted wheat berries.
I Don't always grind them up either.

Even at my thinnest, I doubt I could survive on that.

I pick out a great song to wake up and start moving to and a song to slow back down and then fill up the middle with a total of 40 minutes of music.

I warm up the first song and cool down the last, that way I don't have to worry about time and can focus on working out the best I can.

Any movement is better than none.

Breakfast: almonds-30 (regular, salt/vinegar, smokehouse)

Lunch: Progresso Soup (when maintaining, I can add small piece of french bread) any flavor

Dinner: A small portion of whatever I make the kids.

How bio available are all these nutrients and vitamins in the foods without the variation of fats in this diet?

For example 10g of protein from broccoli isn't as bio available as 10g of protein from meat, you won't actually get the 10g of protein into your body from the broccoli, 2/3's worth at the very very best potentially less than half.

If your mind thinks somethings doing you awesome, you'll believe it for a whole and feel it, only for so long then physiology catches up in the ole organs.

If it works for you at present it sounds great and power to you.

Variation, moderation and consistency are key, 'diet' is bullshit, 'lifestyle' is where its at.

The quicker you lose the fat, the quicker it'll come back, bouncing up and down in weight is no good for the body.

Seeds, a container and clean water.

You can use a coffee cup or them plastic deli containers.

Get some seeds. Start with small amounts. You can get variety packs from TheSproutPeople.com

Put a tablespoon (approximate) in your container, cover the seeds with water & let sit overnight.

In the morning, drain them with your hand, a small mesh strainer or put a piece of cloth over the top.
Rinse & drain again, 2 or 3 times a day.

So easy.

Once you get the hang of it & know which seeds are your favorites, then you can buy the plastic seed sprouters if you want.

Good job OP. Sprouts and micro greens are all the rage. Chefs and small stores want them to sell. Whats really cool is sprouting from FORAGED seeds. This way you never run out if the stores close. With this knowledge it would be hard to starve even in bad winters. Also sprouts can be grown with very little light. Perfect for off grid.

I use seed trays for the veggies sprouts after they outgrow either quart of half gallon jars. i use jars for everything else.

The trays are those large black ones about 2 foot by 1 foot that they put grow cubes into. i get the inserts with the holes and then a lid. they sell them for sprouting at true leaf market, which is also where i got my seeds. they used to be mountain valley seed company or bought them out or something but they have the best prices i've found.

Cool story, thanks for sharing. I tried sprouting a while back, bought the jar and stuff and mostly I did mung and broccoli sprouts, the mung sprouted fine, but then the broccoli never did, which kind of made me give up, because the broccoli ones were the ones I wanted.

Also, I was getting a weird feeling on the mung seeds, and so I looked them up and what I read was that they're just dried on the dirty roads and stuff with oil and toxins and not that healthy, so just beware.

Congrats on the weight loss! You sound happy on your diet, and that's the thing. If your brain derails you, it's not the right diet for you. I think that stopping alcohol probably helped you a lot as well.

Using small bowls and plates is a good strategy. I use United Airlines cutlery. They are smaller. Have you seen the forks these days? I was at the home decor store and was shocked to see how big manufacturers are making forks and knives and spoons.

At any rate, I think you have got a winning plan, and you're not crash dieting it off. Your body is saying THANK YOU. Soon you might be able to add your yoga (which is better than other demonic exercises LOL) as you're getting in better condition. Awesome news!

I like the glass jars too - so much easier to clean.

I also popped holes in the plastic lids and also some of the containers like from cottage chees or fresh salsa.

I would take 2 of the containers, pop a bunch of holes in 1 & set that inside the other. Then when alfalfa, clover, whatever started growing but wasn't ready to harvest, the 1 container would drain into the other container.

Re: Sprouting: How I’ve Lost 25 Pounds In 2 Months With No Exercise, For Very Cheap, And The Freshest If Not Healthiest Way Possible

Thank you! Lol, yeah i actually just finished eating my breakfast with a baby spoon. I've never like big utensils, even when eating like a pig.

Right now I'm at the point that if anything isn't a whole food, even if it's healthy, i don't want to eat it. I don't always have my momentum going the right way, but it's nice when i do.

Thanks for sharing your success! Please recommend the minimum equipment needed to begin sprouting. I’d like to give it a try.

Thanks for the instructions. I like using glass jars with
plastic lids with stainless steel screens built in. sometimes the plastic lids can have holes so small you have hard time filling them up with water to rinse them.

Very nice. Keep it simple and cheap.
