I am aware all voting is open to results being rigged, in fact the last federal election my electorate had to revote as boxes of voting slips went missing. I think from memory they turned up out the back of some green party offices.

Voting is monitored by scrutineers from all parties and the electoral commission, who oversees the voting, the boxes being transported to the designated counting venue and then the counting itself.

postal votes are delivered to the counting venues and are not opened and counted until voting closes at 6pm in each state, usually the result will be obvious fairly early in the evening of the counting, when a great majority of eligible voters vote, when there is an issue or issues voters feel strongly about.

Is it a fool proof system? no of course not but until there is a foolproof method of voting ours seems to work.
