From what I understand, the drawing of baphomet is only symbolic. The drawing isn't that ancient really, but the bodily parts of baphomet are symbols unto themselves.

For instance...the breasts, represent the dualism between masculine and feminine... the goat head and horns represent, perhaps, the beast nature of man at it's basic root... not sure if that's exactly true, but just to give you the jist of it all.

There are other things about the form of Baphomet that symbolize other things.

So, from what I understand Baph is not and never was a real persona, but a symbol. Perhaps over the decades it has morphed into the belief that Baph is indeed some kind of entity...but I don't think that was the original idea of it all.

Though occult in it's symbols, that doesn't necessarily mean that it's evil on it's own.

I tend to believe that many occult truths have been hijacked over the years to where the original 'truth' is nothing like what it appears today.

So, Good/evil, right/wrong etc., you get to choose... you get to create.

You may use symbols to represent certain truths. The horns of a bull may represent strength. Breasts may represent feminine...a 5 pointed star may represent a certain frequency or energy, derived from the geometric shape of the pentagram.

The star pointed up could mean to the positive side...the star upside down could represent the negative side.

The trials against the Knights Templar in the early 14th century had as charges that they worshipped the head of an idol they called Baphomet (which does seem like a French version of that Arab word), which was on a piece of cloth they revered. It might have been part of the Shroud of Turin, or Veronica's cloth or some other ancient image.
