Helium Shortage Leaves Dollar Tree And Party City's Balloons Deflated

Retailers from Dollar Tree to Party City are warning about a helium shortage. There's even a shortage of the gas, produced when Uranium decays, to fill weather balloons for the National Weather Service (NWS).

But surprisingly the greed of money won that fight too. Eh. Good bye helium.

Genius government plan.
Required regular testing which has a fee.
When they say you have the virus you get to pay for quarantine.
Once you get out, you get back in line.

The virus will exist forever even if it was gone yesterday.

China pushes for regular mass testing in its ‘zero Covid’ pursuit.
The strategy risks increasing economic stress and trying people’s patience.

Likely to get much tighter.

Saving energy now will help us to prepare for the potential challenges of next winter. Therefore the Commission also published today an ‘EU Save Energy Communication' detailing short-term behavioural changes which could cut gas and oil demand by 5% and encouraging Member States to start specific communication campaigns targeting households and industry.

One thing I’ve learned from all of this.
Most packaged items last well beyond their expiration.
Chips, crackers..not so much.
However, Strawberry Pop Tarts (with icing) are still perfectly fine 1 year and 8 months after the date printed on the box.

I've said this before, but I'll post it again: I once performed a test with a can of Chef-Boyardee mini-ravioli that was five years past its expiration date from our emergency stores. I cooked it for lunch one day and it tasted just fine. As long as the can isn't bulging, damaged, or corroded, the contents should be just fine for the most part.

Excellent news.
Storage is key. Keeping products in a relatively cool room out of direct sunlight.

The only thing I’ll add to your Chef-Boyardee is I always shake the can you since the oils can separate.

Just some notes

Daughter started getting sick Tues, then grandson Wed, and son in law Thurs.

She and SIL received early vacs, but no booster.

She flew Fri and Sun before getting sick and thinks that's how she got it. They did experience 'flightmares' with long delays canceled flights partly due to weather, but also NO CREWS!

Grandson feeling fine by Fri. Daughter and SIL still sick but started improving.

She felt too sick to go to Dr appointment. So, you have probably 3 covid cases, but only 1 went toward any count.

There's an election coming up in less than six months. Of course they're not going to talk about any kind of mask mandate whatsoever, especially for children.

Nah, the problem is that these kids shared a building all day sitting in the same rooms with back ventilation. N95's would have preformed better but it's questionable if it would be noticeable in studies. Covid is airborne, simple masks limit the release and intake of the virus from the air, but if you share air supply for hours on end the minor reductions from the masks are negated by sheer time. At some point 90% less is still more then needed.

The big “if” here is competency.
I ain’t seen much of that.
Too much politics and social agendas.
No one is willing to call it what it is.
And if someone does they get shouted down and branded.
No one is going to put their career in jeopardy.
So while it may not be much of a worry now.
It could be in the near future.
While it cooks on the back burner and seeps it’s way into the “general” population.
 Quoting: Guythu

True, though unlikely. The coin goes two ways in this little game, the press wants you to worry to sell papers and science wants you to be reasonable. I tend to slant with science. Which is annoying because it offers no certainty about things that we don't know. The press wants you to worry about the things we don't know. I would prefer we wait to learn what we don't know.

Proving that a virus is a new strain is one thing and vague regarding consequence, the article provided gave no such prove. Most importantly it gave no proof that any new strain would be a cause for worry. That said to establish if it is worrisome takes time, and during that time we can abuse our basic human instinct that change is bad to fortify our emotional response to the news that the virus as found is somehow different; regardless of how.

This virus does not any way present a challenge to a now fortified system of disease control. Without further proof that it will a R0 above 2 now that we know it's around these kinds of articles though correct on facts are excessive on fearmongering.

But at this point I place little confidence in practitioners of science.
If anything, SARS-CoV2 has shown me not to place much confidence in the “practitioners of science”.

America's Other Shortage Crisis - Human Organs

The pandemic has exacerbated the shortage crisis in the U.S., with Penn Medical News reporting that the number of recovered organs dropped from more than 110 a day on March 6 in the U.S. to less than 60 per day on April 5.
