Quoting: JAZZz50 I did panic meat buying yesterday, I confess. The freezers are full, hopefully So Cal Edison will keep the power on. My solution is meat-on-the-hoof. I keep looking at my herd of geese and ducks in the front yard. Now, I have 7 baby geese that are as big as chickens. Then there is the baby bull in the pasture with Sweet Heart, the Jersey cow. He is 7 months old. I can let him grow a few more months and he will breed Sweet Heart to produce her next calf. Or, I could put him in the freezer and start milking her daily. I have not decided to make that commitment yet. Hi Darth, all this sounds quite long-term. So you are planning to stay put? We have not made a firm decision yet. If I stay in the US I could keep the cow. She is a wonderful, healthy girl. My original plan for my farm was that this would be my last move ever. However, my Doom Matrix had to be updated. We are facing more problems. BTW, I smoked and BBQ'd part of that sheep I processed recently using mesquite and apple wood. It was fabulosa! |

No idea how long because it wasn't straight, but boy was he huge around. Don't you have red yellower kill a feller? I'm more afraid of those, and they don't even live here, haha I never kill them unless they are on my property same with the Copperheads, GW National Forest surrounds us so i have seen my fair share over the years but only a few on the Property, i worry more about Momma Bear with her Cubs in the summer then i do Snakes, Milk Snakes can look a lot like a Copperhead but without the hour glass markings. Hmmm, my dream of 40 acres in the beautiful mountains of WV has a glitch. Maybe a nice condo in Boca. Rural Property in Topanga canyon and Malibu utilize snake fencing to protect their properties..... [link to medium.com (secure)] Back over 50 years ago, my cousin and hubby bought 25 acres in the country North of Houston to build a house. They quickly discovered that after a big rain, it was a swamp. They built a small hill for the house. When it flooded, all the water moccasins and copperheads went to the hill to escape. My cousin used to pay us 25 cents for every snake we killed. I used a 410 shotgun with bird shot. They solved their snake problem with a couple of hogs. Hogs LOVE to eat snakes and appeared to be immune to venom, or their hide was too tough to penetrate easily. Hogs are smelly, but they are one of the most useful farm animals ever. |

The number of veggies, fruits, and grains you can plant is mind boggling. There is enormous variety; all you have to do is plant some. When I plant my garden I go with several varieties because I don't know what will survive the bugs, disease, and weather this year. Another long term problem is poor soil. You can get crops that look good and taste OK, but they lack key nutrients. I have been improving my soil for 7 years now. It is MUCH better than when I started. |

His union forced him to take the vax. He is the one that was close to ICU admittance back in Jan. 2021. I sent him a tube of Ivermectin, some vites, zinc, etc. He took the entire tube and reported that he was better in hours. However, he had nerve/circulatory problems in his legs after the virus for which he is still in therapy. When his union took the vax, there was a healthy guy in his 30s with no comorbidities. He died 5 days later and freaked out everyone. However, no other adverse events. |
