It's not a fallacy, it's biology. I read an article yesterday that said 90% of the people in Massachusetts who tested positive for the virus last year weren't contagious based on the cycle threshold required to get a positive result.

Most people fight it off before the viral load gets high enough for them to give it to anyone else, that's why there's so many asymptomatics. And it's why there's so many people that don't give it to anyone, and then a few that give it to a shit ton of people.

My whole company worked closely with a guy who had COVID asymptomatically at some point between March and June 2020, and he never gave it to any of us... nor did he give it to his girlfriend who later was infected by someone else who actually was contagious.

The vaccines help the 10% who used to be superspreaders fight off the virus like everyone else.

Think about it, the R number of COVID ends up being somewhere around 1.0 plus or minus 0.2. But it spreads so fast... there's a lot of people who infect 0 and then a few who infect 30, and it averages out to somewhere near 1.
