I don't really think they are testing much anymore,
my youngest (34) is in the hospital, original symptoms were fever for more than a week , muscle aches, respiratory issues and a slew of other Covid symptoms and was so weak i couldn't get him to the truck, he is 6'2, 240 #'s, so had to call 911 for an Ambulance, he has a bad infection through out his body and in most organs including the heart, they never tested him for Covid and they were right i guess? but i thought since he is not Vaccinated it would have been the first thing they did, anyway he has Mrsa and not doing very well, so far we know he will be in the Hospital for at least 5 weeks longer, might need a heart valve replacement if they can't control the infection, he has been there almost two weeks now, if heart valve Surgery is required who knows how much longer the stay will be? the only bright side since being admitted is the Kidney's are now functioning on their own but the infection is still in his lungs, liver and heart, so far it's a mystery for where or how he got the infection especially being 34 and healthy before all this started??
would rather have it & not need it then need it & not have it

Mrsa is just like the fungus issue. COVID-19 is an hiv type thing.

Zeph got a bone infection from back to back viruses. Had I not yelled and hollered... he would have lost his leg.

can i ask a dumb question on these "incentives" ... mayb 2?

how the F can they afford to do that? with society intact and ppl working, most states were near broke before rthe virus. where did this extra $$ come from? they all dug up a new gold mine?

i wanta know how that works so i can b rich tomorrow.

is this a contest to see which state can vax the most? why else would they all push such strategies? even if the vax worked, this way seems flawed. too much push so ppl will think CT's. which goes against the point.

is the prize a room in bunkervill for the governor that kills the most? it defies logic.
 Quoting: JAZZz50

JAZZz50, it's only six winners, not everybody. Not sure who you could sue? Vaccine manufacturers have been held harmless for decades in the USA. California, for one, had a 75 billion budget surplus last month that will certainly cover a few "incentives".... [link to www.politico.com (secure)]

There appears to be a magical thinking idea that if we reach 70% vaccinated, then the RO dips below 1? Of course, this does not account for Delta or Delta on steroids.

There have been about 480 thousand deaths from covid in the 65 and over age group. How much money do you think has been and will be saved in social security payments and Medicare?
Medicare is about $11,500 per year per person. My guess is Social security is about $15,000 per year per person.

My phone says our low was 69. I don't think so. It was colder than that this morning. I wish I'd have looked though.

The reinfection testing is a failure....

Unless they checked poop - there is an inherent normalcy bias going on. Folks are assuming that reinfection will occur and testing will always work.
 Quoting: CleverCreator

Right. Asymptomatic folks too who more often than not don't go for a test if they are re-infected.

The best study that was done on re-infection was a very large study in Denmark conducted last year before the variants of concern emerged. They tested an large amount of their population regardless of whether they had symptoms or not during the first and second waves. They found the risk of re-infection after 6 months for older folks was 50% and in the younger folks it was 20%. That was bad enough and then add the variants of concern it just gets worse.

Just checking in briefly while I have a moment. Currently waiting my 15 minutes after receiving the J&J vaccine. It caused a minor ache like a bruise for a minute or two but has mostly faded at this point.

My personal research over the past month indicates to me that vaccines are having an impact on infection rates and people I know personally have not had any major side effects.

I will post any side effects I experience if they occur.

I hope all of you are doing well. I have been super busy with my new job so that's why I have been largely absent. Doesn't mean I'm not thinking about you.

Ok..so..
Day late and a dollar short.
And
Less is more.

The performance of the SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR test as a tool for detecting SARS-CoV-2 infection in the population

In light of our findings that more than half of individuals with positive PCR test results are unlikely to have been infectious, RT-PCR test positivity should not be taken as an accurate measure of infectious SARS-CoV-2 incidence. Our results confirm the findings of others that the routine use of “positive” RT-PCR test results as the gold standard for assessing and controlling infectiousness fails to reflect the fact “that 50-75% of the time an individual is PCR positive, they are likely to be post-infectious” [7].

Asymptomatic individuals with positive RT-PCR test results have higher Ct values and a lower probability of being infectious than symptomatic individuals with positive results. Although Ct values have been shown to be inversely associated with viral load and infectivity, there is no international standardization across laboratories, rendering problematic the interpretation of RT-PCR tests when used as a tool for mass screening.
