With that view....
This is a stretch....but I'm wondering if the actual source of this smoke is below surface.
According to people in the chat, DC is grounded and air space cleared.
2/23 was a date we were warned about...so perhaps this is in relation to that.

But it's hard to tell due to it being nighttime there as well. Easy for our eyes to be tricked just by that factor alone. I also wasn't able to find anything about DC air space clearing and grounding flights. [ link to www.flightradar24.com (secure)] According to this site, I don't see any commercial airliners etc up in the air around there. Just a few small planes.
