I watch these cameras often. I can tell you that something unusual is happening. The airport camera at this time of day is usually "dead", no activity at all. On occasion you will hear pilots asking for permission or reporting in.

I haven't seen this much activity at the airport since the elections, but can't determine what's going on yet.

For what it's worth, the scanner said something about an electrician I think and getting a runway back in service shortly. Two guys were talking, neither sounded like it was anything dire. I have both Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority and Washington DC Fire and EMS open, I assume it was the airport authority scanner I heard. It's been quiet otherwise.

Well the smoke is still billowing and has been for 20 or.30 mins now so there us a fire they can't put out, maybe a plane crashed or caught fire somehow

There was another brief mention by a different guy about channel 4, so maybe that's where they're really talking, if indeed they are.

The airport sits right next to the Potomac River ... and the river is wide and tidal at that point. Fog is a common occurrance in that area at night, sometimes pea soup thick in places.

It's really bad now.

That's a lot of flashing lights to have it get worse.
