There's a cop right there next to the guy at the end. Might be able to FOIA some dash cam from a different angle.

Truckers were in a hurry too.... crash into the vehicles in front of them?

Slow THE F DOWN in those circumstances - everyone - way back down the road.

So the dude in the white truck got out in time??!! Cool. I figured after I watched the video if whoever was in that truck was still in it...it wasn't good and if that was the case then whoever had to be dead. Nice to know he survived!!

And look ahead...down the road a ways. Even though it was dark if you were paying attention ahead of you like you should be you should have seen the smoke or something.

There was likely a stretch of glare ice that prevented any effective braking to occur for a considerable distance. So you get a full speed collision.

That is a REALLY good point and with folks with their
faces buried in their cell phones I'm sure accidents are
on the rise--especially pedestrians.

My sister was hit by a pickup truck last year just crossing
a quiet residential street (not cell phone related) and
I really look a couple of times now crossing ANY street.
It was a slow contact pedestrian/vehicle contact but it
still nearly took off her leg and broke her hand and arm.
She is a professional pianist so that was the worst part
for her. She's good now but the recovery took over a year
and lots of therapy.

That video from the OP is probably the hands-down MOSt
AMAZING "miracle" I've seen yet. I am sure a "little voice"
told him to "MOVE IT!"

I recall the news reporter saying the bridge approach
--which was totally iced over--was a downhill decline.
Just the gravity of now traction and a slight hill explains
a great deal. I've also heard of this same thing in a
sudden "white-out snow storm"--all "perfect storms" for
disaster.

Ice. There's no stopping on it.
In his poem Human Pride, Marx admits that his aim is not to improve the world, reform or revolutionize it, but simply to ruin it and enjoy it being ruined:

With disdain I will throw my gauntlet full in the face of the world,
And see the collapse of this pygmy giant whose fall will not stifle my ardor.
Then will I wander godlike and victorious through the ruins of the world
And, giving my words an active force, I will feel equal to the Creator.

“Looking for consciousness in the brain is like looking in the radio for the announcer.”

– Nasseim Haramein, Director of Research for the Resonance Project

WTF was wrong with those truck drivers?
 Quoting: Malleus

Should be investigated for manslaughter charges.
 Quoting: Malleus

A dump truck driver killed my brother in an accident.

I forgive him but he tried playing victim in the investigation/trial.
 Quoting: BFD

I'm sorry to hear that. It used to be that truckers were the best drivers on the road. Now there are a lot of foreigners who went to two weeks of truck driving school. I work at a diesel fuel pump and the truckers come through. 80% of them have such thick accents that we can barely understand a word they're saying.

They're also rude as shit, and aggressive drivers, whereas a couple or three decades ago they were extremely courteous.
 Quoting: Malleus

My son is a trucker and he always keeps his CB on in the background. He said the Mexicans and other foreign truckers don't use CBs because they can barely speak or understand English. He keeps it on in case there's an accident or something going on ahead. Some of those truckers came barreling down and I can only think that they had no clue as to what they were approaching.

My husband can attest to this. He has been driving for over 25 years & has also seen the change in driver skill & attitude. He drives a fuel tanker for a nationwide company & his terminal recently hired a man who cannot speak English. The manager only speaks English, so I don’t know how they hired the man without even being able to interview him. If he doesn’t speak English it’s probably unlikely that he cant read the street signs to do his job well.

They will give a drivers license to just about anyone these days, but there should be higher standards in place when it comes to driving a potential bomb on wheels. It’s pretty unbelievable the risks that some of these transport companies are taking to turn a profit.

The drivers involved in this particular accident on I35 had no idea that the roads were iced over in this area. The roads went from dry & clear to covered in black ice without any warning.

Unsealed roads in the outback can become very very slippery with the tiniest amount of rain and if the vehicle comes off the road can end up literally stuck in the mud. This sometimes has occurred in summer when it was a quick flash shower followed by blistering heat and foolish drivers trying to walk to the next town for help, without mobile reception or water or knowledge the next town could be 100kms or more away. A few have perished like that. I think people often underestimate how quickly things can go from good to bad to life threatening and the point you make about engaged with electronic devices I'm sure has played a big part in how much more prevalent it is. Can't say I haven't been guilty of that myself.

Nice to hear your sister is ok :) Almost had the same thing happen to me first time I traveled overseas. Wasn't mindful to the fact the country I was in they drove on the other side of the road so with a quick glance in the wrong direction went to step out onto the street and cross when my buddy pulled me back to the curb and a vehicle goes cruising by. Still unsure how it didn't even hear it, just have to put it down to my mind wasn't engaged.

I try to be extra vigilant these days. Another one I live by is when driving, especially at night, and approach a intersection but with the lights green, I'll make sure to do a good quick scan left-right-left before going through since so many people end up as statistics when a drink driver runs red light or something like that.

cheers hf
