I have a problem with the words "humanitarian importance". Humanitarianism does not necessarily promote independent or diverse cultural values. The experiment should lead to monetary fruits.

We have several unfruitful endeavors: a very large one is NASA and all that spacegazing stuff, the "going to another planet" idiocy. If you want to live in a tin can in the middle of nowhere, there's a better cheaper way. Big Pharma is another, nothing to see here. Page after page of losses, drug costs far exceeding those of drugs produced elsewhere. The military industrial complex... another big fail. Seriously, try looting. It works. No, not from the US treasury.
