Re: AOC: $15 Minimum Wage a ‘Deep, Deep Compromise,’ Should Be $24
What difference does it make? Prices just rise to make the new, higher wage equivalent to the old lower wage. The only difference is that wages follow behind price increases, so people lose buying power, across the board. The entry level positions will still pay just enough to live on, if you are frugal. Economics 101!
Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

Re: AOC: $15 Minimum Wage a ‘Deep, Deep Compromise,’ Should Be $24
Apparently AOC has no grasp of what actual inflation has been.

In 1956, for example, the minimum wage was exactly $1.00 per hour, which is equivalent to $9.67 today.

In 1968, it was $1.60 per hour, which would be $12.09 in today’s dollars.

In 1981, the minimum hourly rate was $3.35/hour, equivalent today to $9.67.

A minimum wage of $24.00 per hour would be absolutely exorbitant; not only would countless jobs be lost, but many businesses simply could not stay open.

60 years ago minimum wage was $1.15, which is the equivalent of $10 (minus a few pennies). What is she talking about? It really is frightening when people this clueless are in office.

This is a stupid comparison. 60 years ago the average home price in the US was $11,900, which is $93K today. HOW-FUCKING-EVER, today, the average US home price is $297K.

Let me know what other harsh realities you want me to open your eyes to.

If we make it $100 an hour, then all 6 people who are still employees will be able to make a livable wage!

The rest of the people will be unemployed, which means technically they don’t count.

Re: AOC: $15 Minimum Wage a ‘Deep, Deep Compromise,’ Should Be $24
It's pure emotion and that's the problem.

If someone works at a pizza place and makes an average of 10 pizzas an hour at $10 a pizza, that's $100 worth of product per hour that they generated. They should be paid well, no one I know disagrees with that.

Problem is, say someone started at $8/hr and has worked their way up to $12/hr FT with benefits. The people who think up this $15/hr minimum wage have obviously never worked a real job in their life. Do they honestly think that that person is going to now just get bumped up to $15/hr and stay on full time with benefits?! It's a possibility, but the far more likely scenario is their hours get cut so they're not full time anymore and the company doesn't have to pay them benefits.

If there are 4 cashiers making $10/hr they're likely getting replaced with 4 self-checkouts and one person making $15/hr with a handheld device to oversee them.

It doesn't take a PhD in economics...

They like their chains. I'm not saying up the minimum wage because the system in place will crash but something needs to be done. Can't have them destroying small businesses fighting it in stupid ways!

Much of that is due to municipalities enacting minimum-square-foot ordinances. Try building a modest, sub-1,000 sq. ft. house in most incorporated places today. It isn’t going to happen, because they won’t get enough yearly property taxes from it.

If we could get an accounting of the Fed it would show how much had been stolen from the American taxpayer.

Those crying socialism all are fake conservatives with social security numbers practicing communism.

If conservatives we're honest and really wanted people off all welfare most of which the Fed feed via QE to globalist corporations then they would support a higher wage so people wouldn't want welfare and the strings attached.

REALITY CHECK:

Currently, only .8 percent (yes, less than 1 percent) of wage earners make minimum wage. Most make more.

Current minimum wage is great for kids just starting out to learn the value of work and it allows small businesses the opportunity to hire them and yet be profitable.

Damn socialists need to move to outer Siberia and practice their Draconian, anti-capitalistic nonsense!

That just changes the worth of goods. Change the worth of people will always change the worth of objects you purchase.
