Why did convertibles get so expensive?
Five years ago I was looking at a small convertible for a second car to cruise in.

I could get a low mile 2005 Chrysler Crossfire for about 12,000.

Today, I saw a low 2005 Chrsyler Crossfire and they wanted 17,000. Same car...now its five years older.

Same with Mazda Miatas. I used to see them and you could get a nice older one for 10,000 - 12,000. Now you would be lucky to find one for 18,000.

I am talking clean low mile used convertibles.

Prices are through the roof.

There is a difference between a classic 60's muscle car that is a collectible and a 2010 Mazda miata that is 11 years old

na. cars go down in price as they get older. the sticker price paid for all that.

we're talking about common used cars that are going up in value.

Used to be easy to get an old vette or mustang cheap.
Not now.

The essence of it is decreased supply to meet demand.

You're saying there is a decrease in the supply of used convertibles?

This is more than held value. You used to be able to find an older convertible that someone just drove on weekends, so it would be low miles...and they traded very reasonably.

Not the case anymore.
