User ID: 80036840 Canada 03/06/2021 11:03 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I used to absolutely love rap music, but now I can't even listen to it any more. It seems like after 1997, Rap just went downhill fast and within 5 or 6 years it was completely dead. I'm from a city of 200,00 in Canada and when I first started listening to rap in about 1984 you could not even buy rap albums here unless it was totally mainstream, like Run DMC or (god forbid) the Fresh Prince. It was impossible to find anything that wasn't on the top 40's charts. Thankfully I live right across the river from Detroit so I used to skip out of school and take the tunnel bus over to Detroit every once in a while and I'd buy all my rap albums there. Eric B an Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Public Enemy....Legends! Not only did I buy all the albums but I used to drag my friends to all the concerts as well. I didn't give a rats ass that we were the only white boys in Joe Louis Arena, I just loved the music and had to go see it live. You name any rap group from the 80's and I saw them in concert at least once. Rap had a couple down years around 1990 but once Dr. Dre's the chronic came out West Coast Rap absolutely exploded and RAp became better than ever. But by the end of 1997 Rap just completely smashed into a wall and turned to absolute shit. I think there is maybe 10 good rap albums since then and none of them come after about 2005. It's freakin sad because Rap used to absolutely amazing. The exact same story can be said for R&B music as well and it also started to slowly die about the same time Rap did. The thing that made R&B so amazing was the singing. Once auto-tune came out R&B turned to shit. Coincidently Rap and R&B died at the exact same time that Radio One, and Clear Channel (I think one of these companies might be called I Heart Radio NOw) bought up every single local radio station and turned them into rubber stamp commercialized garbage. I used to love going to different cities just to hear the different radio stations and the different flavors of each one. Each city used to have their own distinct styles and a lot of time their own music as well, but after the local radio stations all got bought up you couldn't tell if that radio station was from Detroit, Philadelphia, or Timbucktoo because they were all exactly the same. I feel sorry for today's kids becasue they have absoltuely no clue at all what good music is. The rap that they listen to now is not even music as far as I'm concerned. |

You're not down with his music? He reps Canada. Still a lot of good stuff out there but it's independent. |
