Well, it began with Bill Clinton deciding it was a good idea to give loans of hundreds of thousands of dollars with no proof of income or ability to repay, and then Wall St. building derivatives based on a foundation of idiocy. They made out like bandits, so it wasn't so stupid for them, just for the rest of us.
