Athletes have adopted an “accentuated” version, and it just stuck. It has more “action” and style. I believe all the different versions tend to cloud perception, especially when probably only 5% of the people who know what the Heisman is, actually watch the ceremony.

Because that’s what humans do. They see role models, often stars and especially star athletes, who generally have a penchant for being over-the-top.

From the comments under the video, looks like most remember the statue how people werpe posing.

And for good measure, if you rotate the current trophy to where it appears vertical, it looks like the “mainstream” Heisman stance. Again, this is much less awkward than hunching over like the current statue.

No crow shall be eaten. I definitely remember the statue figure's leg being raised from the base, and so do many others.

The pose may be sort of the same, but no one seems to remember both feet attached to the base like it is now. I looked back to older photos/versions of the statue and supposedly it's always been like this. It looks way less dynamic now; I remember being struck by how almost awkward the statue looked from a design standpoint. It looks static now by comparison, doesn't catch your attention as much.

The next step would be to look for written/spoken descriptions of the statue throughout history to see what's been said about it.
(There's lots of 'residue' of "The Thinker" statue being described "fist to forehead" in art history books.)

Do a search on "strikes Heisman pose" anywhere (Google, DuckDuckGo, Twitter, etc.) and you'll see just about everyone has a leg in the air like the statue used to be.

Its always been that way. Desmond Howard messed it all up in your minds by lifting his leg. From then on it just snow balled into some karate looking pose.. I remember clearly my dad had a replica statue of it and I was literally looking at the statue while watching the highlights on tv thinking Desmond did the pose wrong.
