But a fearsome new invasive predator has emerged in the state: the arapaima, a monster fish that can grow up to 10 feet long and weigh hundreds of pounds. A dead one recently washed ashore in Cape Coral’s Jaycee Park along the Caloosahatchee River, which runs from Lake Okeechobee west to the Gulf of Mexico." Somehow this fish is now in the Everglades and maybe even Lake Okeechobee. It gets more than ten feet long but is delicious. I hope it doesn't bite people or eat manatees. They are for the most part vegetarians but do occasionally feed on other fish birds cats monkey's horses cattle goats sheep elephants gophers buffalo swimmers small boats low flying aircraft barges and medium sized oil platforms . When screwed around with they can hurt you bad and even kill but they are for the most part not aggressive and tend to avoid confrontations . |

Arapaima (we know it here in Brazil more under the name of pirarucu), is the largest freshwater fish in the world, its meat is considered noble, it is also known as freshwater cod, so enjoy, fish some and offer it to friends . |

Sturgeon has the title of largest weighting in at up to several thousand pounds . Some sturgeon never live in salt water such as those found in the upper Columbia river . Something about them being over fished to near extinction or such ? farmed fish is the scourge. they eat what they are fed and what they are fed is loaded with undesirables, including: soy, antibiotics, hormones, etc. Its all about getting them to grow fat and fast, no matter what they feed the things. |
