Today is the one year anniversary of Trump having America shutdown
'The Presidents Coronavirus Guidelines for America' aka '15 Days To Slow The Spread' which was eventually extended to 30 days and followed up by Trumps comprehensive 'Guidelines For Opening Up America Again' are still the basis for every lockdown and restriction in America.

Trump, his task force, and his CDC director Robert Redfield manufactured the covid hysteria in America.

_______________

The President's Coronavirus Guidelines for America :

- Listen to and follow the directions of your state and local authorities

- In states with evidence of community transmission, bars, restaurants, food courts, gyms, and other indoor and outdoor venues where groups of people congregate should be closed

- Avoid social gatherings in groups more than 10 people

- Avoid eating and drinking at bars, restaurants, and food courts

- Avoid discretionary travel, shopping trips, and social visits

Re: Today is the one year anniversary of Trump having America shutdown
From my living room in New Jersey in mid-March, shutting down in the Northeast for "15 days to stop the spread" made perfect sense, as there were not enough hospital beds to go around at that rate.

We could see the red dots, representing cases, pretty much following transit lines and headed right towards us, getting closer every day.

In April, my local paper was startlingly full of COVID obituaries.

The sunnier and more remote states, of course, should have taken the time to prepare for their own surges in whatever way made the most sense for their local communities. That would have been smart. Instead, well into summer, when the hot/sunny states were all indoors, we watched and thought ... "Did they think we were faking it? Why didn't they prepare? You could see it coming."

We need to be real and admit there was no mass, nationwide "lockdown" or "shutdown". Closing schools and putting capacity limits on indoor events does not a "shutdown" make. These buzzwords are silly.

If anything, this whole thing should make us realize that you can't shut down this vast country, and there is no one-size-fits-all solution.

What's good for New Jersey is not what's good for Montana.

It's such a shame that the politicians and the media were not more nuanced.

Here in NJ we're still not through it. No one is complaining loudly not because we are sheep, but because we understand that we are an international destination, and a very densely populated place with lots of transit and elevators.

I don't think any of us will ever share an elevator again - "shutdown" or not.

We are keeping our distance.

We don't need the government to enforce that.

Shame on the bad actors (I'm looking at you, teacher's unions!) who both exaggerate and underrate the situation for their own benefit.

Thank goodness some people have common sense.

States with Republican governors had highest Covid incidence and death rates, study finds

[link to www.nbcnews.com (secure)]

The study found that states with Democratic governors had higher death rates early on in the pandemic, but that trend was reversed by the Fourth of July.

"The early trends could be explained by high Covid-19 cases and deaths among Democratic-led states that are home to initial ports of entry for the virus in early 2020," the researchers wrote. "However, the subsequent reversal in trends, particularly with respect to testing, may reflect policy differences that could have facilitated the spread of the virus."

The study, which which was published in the peer-reviewed American Journal of Preventive Medicine, examined Covid-19 "incidence, death, testing, and test positivity rates from March 15 through December 15, 2020," when there were 16 million confirmed cases in the U.S. and 300,000 deaths. It focused on per-capita infection and death rates in the 26 GOP-led states and 24 Democratic-led states and Washington, D.C., and made statistical adjustments for issues such as population density.

But "policy differences" between the Republican and Democratic leaders emerged as a big factor for the reversal of the states' fortunes, the study suggests.

"The response to the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic became increasingly politicized in the U.S. and political affiliation of state leaders may contribute to policies affecting the spread of the disease," the study said.

It pointed to a finding in another study that "Republican governors were slower to adopt both stay-at-home orders and mandates to wear face masks. Other studies have shown that Democratic governors were more likely to issue stay-at-home orders with longer durations. Moreover, decisions by Republican governors in spring 2020 to retract policies, such as the lifting of stay-at-home orders on April 28 in Georgia, may have contributed to increased cases and deaths."
