Interest is a dishonest thing. Let's say you borrow $1200 at 10% interest per month.

If you pay just the interest ($120 per month) for 10 months you've paid back the $1200, but according to the rules of interest you still owe the original $1200.

After 20 months you've paid back $2400 but you still owe $1200!

After 30 months you've paid back $3600 but you still owe $1200!

You're still renting that $1200 after you've paid it back 3 times!

It's outrageous to say the debt is still owed after it has been paid back 3 times, yet that's how interest works.
