Quoting: misty eyed That's a big Twinkie. I am a Synthetic but I prefer the term "Artificial Person" myself. I answer to "Bishop", "Synthetic" and "Hey man". Bite my shiny metal ass. |

It's called the Mission Creek strand and it runs from around Indio, through Desert Hot Springs and into the San Bernardino Mountains. While it was long believed to have a slip rate of around 14 millimeters per year, the paper, published in Science Advances, argues that it's actually around 22 millimeters. <50% Must be bad news - your link looks to have been scrubbed..... |

HOW FAR ARE THE STUDY SITES AND THIS...'THING'?!.. The geyser is in Sultan Sea area. Serious volcanic activity going on in that region. The study about the increases in movement takes place under the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge, San Fran pillor side. Point is CA is going to go down the same road as Iceland, Italy and Japan. Hang on. |

Thousands will die. Millions will move east. Not to mention two major US ports and connecting railways will be incapacitated for at least a year. The rest of the country will feel the shortages, including oil imports. It won't just be doom for CA. It will be doom for all of you too in one way or another. |

Quoting: misty eyed That's a big Twinkie. :cig: Right under the Golden Gate Bridge footing, it's a big deal. ;-) This is a big deal. San Francisco like most port cities have a huge amount of marsh land. The fill dirt is brought in to build on. So as time goes by, the small, tremors start to add up. The effects of shaking on the land fill sites becomes noticeable. The process of liquifaction takes hold and as the earth quivers things start to sink in to the landfill. This jelly like movement causes structures to sink, like quicksand. Leaning Tower of Pizza, Venice, Easter Island's Stones Etc This is why the San Francisco Earthquake of 1906 was so devastating. Only the city engineers know the full story but this bit of info isn't purely for trivia's sake. It has a purpose. |

No, California is not going to fall into the ocean. California is firmly planted on the top of the earth’s crust in a location where it spans two tectonic plates. The San Andreas Fault System, which crosses California from the Salton Sea in the south to Cape Mendocino in the north, is the boundary between the Pacific Plate (that includes the Pacific Ocean) and North American Plate (that includes North America). These two plates are moving horizontally, slowly sliding past one another. The Pacific Plate is moving northwest with respect to the North American Plate at approximately 46 millimeters per year (the rate your fingernails grow). The strike-slip earthquakes on the San Andreas Fault are a result of this plate motion. There is nowhere for California to fall, however, Los Angeles and San Francisco will one day be adjacent to one another. The ignorance of some people. Probably flat earthers too. Lol. |
