You are incorrect on many levels. First, the X-flare is not a common occurrence. They occur more like once every 3-5 years, if that.

Next, the X-flare your using as an example was not earth facing. Again, the flare was on the back side of the sun. On Aug 23, WA DC had a 5.8 in Virginia. Point is that even though it was not earth facing, we had effects.

Yesterday's flare was preceded by 2 M-class flares and a couple of C-flares followed by another M-class flare. Some will clear the debris field so the later ones have a better hit. This is an amazing earth facing set of flares.

Now here's the bitch. Earth shields are down. Way down. KP 0-1 last couple of hours.

SO didn't cover the story because he was bored.

The question is what part of earth will be sun facing when they all hit. Solar ham has a strong (purple) KP geostorm warning.

(From its position and strength if it happened on the 30th instead and arrived on the nov 2nd, it would have been in carrington alignment)
