Most derivitives are interest rate based,
If interest rates get away from Fed, that would set them off.
There is a school of thought that Fed can not really determine interest rates, but they can see ahead of the market, because they have all the economic information,
and the Fed adjusts the rates before the market does.
This may be why Powell wants to keep raising rates, because he knows that he may not be able to really lower them....
