I heard that warming up cars was just a thing that people had to do prior to the 7Os before carburetors underwent improvement... Not sure. Maybe old habits die hard?

Modern car engines - it's best to start them and drive them without warming up the engine. There's no advantage for engine life, etc.

Even in super cold weather the only reason to warm up the engine is to thaw out the windows that are covered in ice.

EXACTLY. People used to idle their cars WAY back like in the 70s or earlier maybe? But now it makes no sense. And the kids doing this are millenials. So they probably copy an older father that they may have, who does it habitually.

Car makers need to feed their families. Kudos for you for wearing out your car faster so you can feed these blue collar families.

So when you have people next door to you doing this all the time, you wonder what the hell they're doing.

If the car was plastered and covered in ice, it might make sense to idle it, to melt off the ice, but other than that if I person can drive it, there's no need to warm it up, even for a minute. New cars definitely don't need that.

So, maybe they are warming up the car just so it's toasty warm inside when they get into the passemger compartment, or maybe cooled down a lot with the air conditioner in the summer. Waste.

My OEM oil filter is actually built to work differently after the oil is warm and circulated.

I have a neighbor kid that has newer Camaro. He installed high performance mufflers and large diameter pipes.(Sounds like shit by the way)
He remote starts his car and it idles until it auto shuts down. Then he restarts it and the cycle continues.

It's a little annoying but it could be worse.
Other than that, seems to be a fairly good kid.

There is bastard that drives by in a little Scion van with a massive sound system that witout exaggeration, I can hear it for a quarter mile before and after he passes my house. I think he may be doing door dash, because he passes my house no less than 20 times per day. I'd like to strangle his ass. But what ya gona do?

I moved outside of the city limits to get away from that stuff but should have gone another mile.(fiber, natural gas, and water supply without a well) were powerful incentives not go the extra mile.

If I started driving right away in my 1998 Honda Civic at 20 below it would go dead and have to be restarted several times to get going again. Did that a half dozen times my first hard winter and went back to a three minute idle before tapping the gas. Just kept at it all the time no matter the weather. Yeah it's a habit.

If you insist on doing that, be sure to play music that is not of a genera you neighbor can appreciate.

Believe it or not, even with those annoyances, it's much better here than in town. And I bear in mind the kid will move out someday...

But we're talking mild fairly warm weather. Why idle newer cars for a long time? There's no reason.
