Microsoft is in talks with the owners of D*****d to gobble it up for a fun $10 billion, gaining them access to a treasure trove of alt chat users. There is no true advertising on the platform, so this is a play for heads.

It gives Microsoft access to a growing list of more than 150 million monthly active users. Microsoft wants to have its own homegrown community overnight, from the top down.

It offers Microsoft a globally engaged userbase. Originally used by gamers, it has become a Gen Z hub for socializing with friends, and has taken off exponentially during the pandemic.

It consists predominantly of private communities and chats, with the D-app having 7 million individual active servers every single day. It’s a huge private community, with only a quarter based in North America.
