Could MESH Wifi networks be part of a solution? Curiously, there was a MESH Linux distro of which I found a Live CD on the net more than a decade ago which is not maintained anymore, which is strange. I don't remember what is was called now, but it was based on the Porteus distro (something like Byzantium?). [ link to www.howtogeek.com (secure)]
