Eerily, I lived this scenario in a dream a couple years ago.

I was visiting with my daughter in law in the late autumn or early winter in an unfamiliar house in what looked like might be Montana or Colorado.

I was admiring a skylight in the home when the sky rapidly turned to what looked like boiling flame. It was coming downward very quickly and I immediately began shouting for everyone to pull the cushions off the couch and mattresses - anything - and make a pile and get themselves and the kids under it.

The roar became deafening as the flames came down overhead, and I could see burning embers from the roof flying around the skylight.

In a panic, I dove under the pile. The house was shaking and roaring and I could feel the flames burning through the cushions and burning my legs. I waited a few moments and pushed the burning cushions off of me and heard the roar subsiding.

I walked out and noticed a good portion of the house had totally disintegrated, but thankfully the firestorm was brief enough that the house had absorbed the brunt of it long enough to spare us in our pile.

Then the dream panned out around the world and I could see that it had been everywhere, and very few had survived, but some did.

In the dream, however, I had the sense that this was from the sun, not a nuke, but the effect seems similar.
