Never spoke of it. He had his military secret keeping in tact, he was a very loyal American. But he did say that when they first began testing the nukes, they were not sure (Oppenheimer’s fears) if it would set the atmosphere on fire.
When the war with Japan came to the Point where they were going to nuke them….. my Dad said they still weren’t positive but would take the chance.

There are so many interesting facts and let’s face it, every new invention has its chances of not working like you thought…. But Oppy fleeing Germany and building the Bomb for the US is pretty amazing in itself. Makes you wonder what the military may have NOW 80 years after building the bomb. If you haven’t seen Fat Man and Little Boy about how it all happened, it’s so interesting.

The bomb Was supposed to have stopped wars from happening…. Until the other big Guys got them. Why would we give away or sell that knowledge?
