When your electric car breaks down how does avg person fix it?

i have built a couple of electric cars myself. they are really simple mechanically. but they can kill you in an instant if you do something wrong.

Tesla sent a tech out to my house and they plugged in a new part, reprogrammed it, and viola it was good to go!

like when the batteries catch fire and burn everyone inside?

there are a few companies developing bolt in replacements for combustion engines. big names too.

id imagine it will become a common conversion in the future, when the correct batteries become available. i see there is a lot of talk about the diamond radioactive battery. we'll just have to see if it's that or hydrogen stored in heated tanks.

I recently took a survey from Summit Racing and most of the questions were geared towards would you consider an electric alternative power plant in your restomod, etc.

i would definitely consider one.

You would think that the major parts and circuits, in an electric vehicle, would have fuses and relays that would burn out first before the major component craps out...

So repairing many electrical problems would be fuses, relays, and battery source. Many of these could be done by a knowledgeable person who knows how to troubleshoot...

So you bring your electric vehicle to a repair shop. They replace a few fuses and relays and charge you $500 plus labor. Then they would charge you $800 - $1000 to reprogram or upgrade your vehicle computer...



What car companies want is for you to pay a reprogramming "Use Fee" on an annual basis. Just like you pay for cell phone use, Direct TV/Dishnet use, and internet use. This can be accomplished much easier in an electric vehicle that relies on computer code to run...

Sure you can convert a fuel injected vehicle to carburated and take out much of the electronics and go old school...

Good luck trying that on an electric vehicle...

Would love to see a 4wd electric motor kit for my classic Jeep. The offroad performance would probably be killer with instant torque, but price and battery range would have to be just right to pull the trigger on something like that.

you dont need computer code to run an ev, you literally only need a battery and motor and some sort of speed control (which can be mechanical) to determine how much voltage is applied to the motor.

People will end up having to hack their cars to do simple repair work.

I saw a vice video about farmers in America learning how to hack their John Deer farm equipment, creating their own service mod programs etc as it was not economically viable to transport it to a repair shop every time it spits out an error

With their cellphone! They call someone to fix it !
That’s pretty much what they do with regular cars too lol.

Easy, close all the open windows and restart it.

Not when times are tuff and car repair cost more than you have in the bank
and the only way to work is fixing a car. people live in rural areas
with no public transportation or uber. work is 30 miles away

seem that too on GLP. guys holding onto old computers
so it can talk to their older equipment. The new equipment is
all sealed from working on it with proprietary software

An average electric car driver knows shit about shit. In a perfect world, a fire truck would crush into them for a change.

soon it's gonna be like apple products only authorized service providers for your EV.

after each year goes by they will program it to get less miles per charge, go slower etc.

after 4 years the battery will be dead. and you will be forced to buy another one.

and you will be happy.

Most of those folks don’t own electric vehicles I don’t think
