Was this a problem with the last guy from LA?? Inquiring minds wanna know what was up!
 Quoting: snark

He sucked. He wasn’t worth the $13,000 they paid for his testimony. Maybe the state wanted to work to improve him overnight.

The Star Tribune had an article the other day about the post-mortem medical examination which does contradict the states case to a certain extent.

I see that as being a much bigger issue for reasonable doubt that the state has to overcome. We shall see how it plays out.

Seems it was a Legal issue, the State didn't 'Tender" (register) him formally as a 'Expert Witness"

Hate to burst anyone's thought bubbles here but even if the last witness was problematic - that wasn't my opinion but I wasn't paying super-close attention to the details - it still doesn't detract from the previous witnesses, notably the Chief of police, against whom the defense will have to provide some line of argumentation, which they haven't.

The state doesn't have to prove Chauvin's actions were the deciding factor that killed Floyd, even if it looks likely they were. Guilt can be established through misconduct, and the case seems solid there.
 Quoting: Destin-Toulouse

Three of the States witnesses yesterday provided better testimony for the Defence than for the State. All agreed the Knee was not on the neck but rather on the Shoulder.
 Quoting: BBQ BOY™

Who were they? I watched a lot of the trial yesterday and didn't see any of that testimony. Photo and video evidence would also suggest otherwise.

It's one element of a much larger picture, again read my previous message about proof of guilt. It's not all about where exactly we *might* think his knee may have been, as all of the previous testimony has established.
 Quoting: Destin-Toulouse

Officer MacKenzie is definitely one of them. The defense is calling her back as one of their witnesses lol.

The state got bitch slapped yesterday

An unbiased jury would find this devastating, we’ve had some bad juries in a few high profile cases though

If y'all haven't been reading this attorney's day-by-day analysis of the trial, you should. His reading on yesterday was that it was a verrrry bad day for the State.
 Quoting: snark

Pretty much every day has been a bad day for the State...this prosecution team is nauseating to watch. I can't even imagine being a juror having to sit there and endure this mess....

I think if I was on the jury I would be prone to nearly dismiss this 'expert witness' testimony simply because the prosecution paid him to be there. If this is the best they can do I would surmise they are in great peril of losing this case. He is not very convincing to begin with plus if he was paid, what do you expect him to say? I am sure the defense could do the same likewise.

Yesyerday, the use-of-force officer admitted that Chauvin's procedure (use of body weight and pressure) was a LESSER use of force than adopted in the past, that it wasn't a chokehold.
Yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Which is typical in medical malpractice cases; each side pays for an expert and the jury gets to decide which is more believable.

The problem is people tend to form opinions and the stick with them. People tend to be moved by emotional testimony. And people today are less rational than in the past. So the fact the prosecution goes first and overloaded the jury with emotional testimony works against acquittal. But the prosecution’s case is objectively terrible to the point of being non existent. So hopefully some jurors are good and see that.

Probably not, but you might be with those type of comments. It shouldn't even be a factor for consideration.

You're making a lot of assumptions about people's melanin levels vs their melatonin levels. Two very different things.

Clear case of the prosecution coaching the witness.

I could qualify as an 'expert witness' having been trained in hand to hand combat in the infantry and spending years as a club bouncer and would tell them the actions taken by Chauvin and the other officers could not cause death under normal instances involving a grown male human being. I am sorry but this is a sham thus far and the in depth examination of the post mortem and expert witness testimony there will be all it takes to request dismissal.

This is how courts work. Both sides do it. Worse than expert testimony, which is just finding someone to pay who agrees with you, is paid informant testimony. There they let known criminals get away with crimes in order to generate testimony.

Yup, sadly most jurors don’t understand the meaning beyond a reasonable doubt too

I think back the the Casey Anthony case, those jurors were beyond help
