Re: Have you cheated DEATH before?
One time, I gave plasma and drove home. (They never warned me against it, btw.)

On the major highway, I blacked out. I remember thinking “oh ****” right before going completely comatose at 70 mph.

I woke up doing 100+ in the median grass, veering closest towards oncoming traffic.

Thank God I came to that moment.

I thought it was over, too. Then 2 minutes later I blacked out again and apparently rode the righthand guard rail for a good half a mile.

Came out of that one just before an exit. Probably would’ve pancaked.

Anyway... Miraculously, not a scratch on me or the car!

No, kidding, the car was shot. But I was unscathed!

Thank God.

near misses? over a decade of biking incidents too many to count. actual death? only once so far. all i will report is: i don't fear it but cherish life more and there does seem to be something after

Amen. Often I hear this discussed and many people fearing death, but it's because they don't know. Obviously your experience was similar to mine and you know the sheer beauty of it. I may fear the way I lose my life, but I will not fear death.

Re: Have you cheated DEATH before?
being an excellent swimmer, i was in cali and hit the beach. the waves looked ok nothing huge so i decide to go body surfing which ive did all over the world.
i got caught in a rip tide which is just a giant undertoe and i could not break loose. the water was just over my head so i had to keep jumpimg to get air. try as i might i couldnt get out and exhausted myself. as i said to myself this is how it ends? my life started flashing in front of me. yes its true. like a quick movie.
2 woman saw me and started to swin out tword me and i screamed stop its dangerous. 1 woman returned to shore to get a life guard and the other got caught up with me in the rip tide ,now there are two of us drownding. somehow i made it too her we locked arms and for the first time i could fight the rip tide or rather us. as the tide went out i dug my feet into the bottom and wasnt swept back. the guard makes it out with a buoy with a rope which we grab and get towed into shore. i went into mild shock and was hyperventilatimg. the paramedics were called and checked me out. i refused service.went to where i was staying was was sick as a dog the rest of the day including high fever. In my heart of heart i believe God intervened because it wasnt my time. ill never forget struggling with all my strength to fight that tide only to be thrown back the oposite wave. i was never able to thank the 2 woman. maybe one will read this. God Bless You

yeah riptide is scary shit. i got caught in the 'pull you out' variety once and that sensation of swimming as fast as you can and getting nowhere is horrible. i had been out all day and was tired already fortunately lifeguard spotted i was in trouble and saved my ass, embarrassing but coulda been worse. hf

Re: Have you cheated DEATH before?
In 2004 was walking around with a 99% clog in my LAD cardiac artery(the widow-maker) with a blood clot hanging onto the clog. I was actually walking around with lt, but feeling awful, but had no pain, just extremely short of breath. I did not have a heart attack because there was no elevation of certain enzymes that are present in a heart attack. My cardiologist told me that the blood cells were literally lining up to get through the clog. I definitely cheated death that time.

I had a similar one in 2018 on the right artery. Again with no pain. The thing (there's that word again)that kept me alive was that the heart grew new blood vessels around the clog. That is called angiogenesis, but it did not produce enough blood supply to the heart. I had a hard time convincing a hospital ER that it was my heart and they should perform an angiogram. It was again 99% clogged. We had to go to another hospital for the right diagnosis.

I drank booze and took Xanex, together, abusing both, for far too long. Never died. I quit cold turkey (both at the same time) 10 years ago. Should have died but didn't.

I am sure some of you have even died before. If so, welcome back.

Re: Have you cheated DEATH before?
One day I was sleeping and woke up to the sound of heavy wind and small branches hitting the roof. I decide to get up and look out the window, and as soon as I do I hear the loud sound of a tree cracking and notice the tree outside the window was starting to fall towards me, I ran and jumped across the room before the tree crashed into the house.

Another time I was with a group of idiots trespassing on someone's property to smoke weed. I didn't realize we were trespassing because we parked along a road and followed a trail onto the property, and there were no fences or signs. All of a sudden one of the kids starts yelling "Run!" and the property owner started shooting at us as we ran into the woods.

As a young lad i once got on the back of a seriously high powered Motorbike with the local drugged up idiot.

He then proceeded to laugh manically ,whilst doing 120 Mph + in and out of built up traffic. Under taking. Over taking, and driving in the opposite lane.

Seriously thought I was going to die.

You know when you have seriously fucked up, and are at the mercy of the Gods' That few minutes was the longest of my life.

No idea what I was thinking, or should I say was not thinking.

Ironically the Guy really did end up dead later on in a Motorbike accident.

He Went through red light at high speed. Hit a Car and went straight through the Windscreen and out again through the back window. Dead instantly.

Learned a valuable life lesson that day.

Shattered the back of my skull when I was 8, docs told parents if I survive the 15+ operation I would most likely be in vegetative state

Survived the surgery, was in a coma for about 3 weeks

They left the hole in my skull to for bone growth and I had a plate put in at 10

This is very long and taken from my blog which I am unable to post here. Sorry

July 1st, 1968 - A Trip We Should Not Have Survived

Hi all and welcome back if you have visited before. Well rather than start at when I was 4 (that indeed would be tedious) and move forward from there perhaps this might be a better idea. Pick isolated dates and events, place it by year and then after maybe a few months or so place it all in chronological order. So I will tell a story here that still haunts me to this day and I still wake up in a sweat and this happened over 40 years ago.

It was the start of a long weekend and I was going to head "North" for the first time with a group of close friends to a place called "Sable Beach" sort of The Daytona Beach of Central Ontario. All week my friends and I were excited as we counted down to this first long weekend where I had a car. We packed everything in including, believe it or not, a portable Reel to Reel tape recorder (it took 15 "D" size batteries) and headed out onto The QEW and headed north on Highway #6 towards, well who knew ? Now Highway #6 from Hamilton, Ont to Owen Sound in those days was just two lanes and during the exodus, that occurred every long weekend, was frightfully slow and agonizing to an 18 year old anxious to begin an adventure, but plod along I did. Here is a favourite song of mine from the era ...

Well we crawled along, or so it seemed to me until well I just couldn't stand it anymore. There was a dawdler in front of me and finally I just had to pass him and so I pulled out left and accelerated. All was going good and then I noticed that there were a few more cars lined up almost bumper to bumper in front of him and so I said what the heck and decided to pass a few more. By this time I had reached a speed of about 75 miles an hour, and was increasing it. Unfortunately the line was continuing and other than stopping or slowing down and re-gaining my old spot the only choice it seemed to me was to keep accelerating and keep passing cars and so that is what I continued to do. By now my speed was about 85 and we were passing cars number 7 and 8 and the silence in the car began to build to the point where it was almost screaming at me. - Now before I go on I had mentioned in my first post that it might be a bit of mystical journey and here I would like to suggest that I somehow believe that there is a ... well a force if you will ... that has guarded my life from what early date well I do not know. This is but one instance but I will post others. I would like you to consider that as we finish the narrative. As the silence in the car became overwhelming I began passing cars number #9, #10. now #11 - holy shit now #12 and then the inconceivable reared up we were approaching a hill. A very, very large hill actually. At this point I was doing about 85 - 90 and it would have been almost impossible for me to have slammed the breaks on and got back in line and so for reasons I truly will never understand until the day I die I decided to continue to pass these cars ... ON THE HILL ! Number 13 as I got about 1/3rd of the way up - the silence is numbing, number 14 as I got half way up the hill - all breathing has stopped and finally #15 as we crested the hill. Now there are moments I am sure in all of our lives that are burnt like engrams in our minds and soul and this is one such moment for me. The instant of the crest, the point at which I honestly thought I was going to die and take 5 of my friends with me, the point where traveling at about 90 miles an hour we were going to be killed and take a family of innocents with us, the point where I fully expected to see the front of another car or maybe worse a transport trailer truck looming in front of me --- but it never came. No believe it or not when we crested the hill and I was able to focus, and breath again, the next oncoming car was quite a distance away. It was honestly unbelievable. That this road, a very heavily traveled one at that, could remain so clear for the time I was in the passing lane goes beyond the rational and enters the realm of the irrational and for me the paranormal for I was in that lane for I would guess almost 3 minutes and not to have met another car coming in the other direction for all this time and then to see the next car way off in the distance giving me plenty of time to slow down and move over and calm down, is in my opinion and actually in the opinion of some of the the others in the car, who I fortunately had a chance to reacquaint with at my mother's funeral also felt it was divine intervention and that we had cheated death or a least been given a pardon.

And as a postscript I need to tell you that I still awaken many nights in a sweat and many times in my dreams I do not make it and the transport truck that I missed first time around is there to greet me. I wonder ... ? - Thanks for listening folks -

3 times:

Fell 15 feet head first into the toe of a trailer we were stacking straw on when about 9.

Head on car collision totaling both cars.

Over the handle bar on a motorcycle after a car pulled out in front of me doing about 40 mph.

No injuries or ever a broken bone.

If not abducted by aliens at a very young age and being injected with something would probably have died at each of these accidents. Oh and I whopped the C virus in three days.

Re: Have you cheated DEATH before?
We can only cheat and delay the inevitable.

I've been critically injured on 3 separate occasions. I was dragged under a car and crushed when I was three years old. Legs, arms, back, internal injuries and more. At six I had an even worse accident--one that I won't go into here, as it'll be recognizable to those who know me. I've spent an aggregate 2 years in hospitals and I've undergone 47 surgeries, with over 30 of those under general anesthesia. I also underwent a year of chemotherapy.

I was addicted to opiates by the time I was 6 years old and had spent nearly a year in the hospital. I can no longer take any sort of opioid pain relief, as it'll trigger my addiction and I'll be off to the races in no time flat.

Despite all of that, I love every minute of every day. I have beautiful children and a drop-dead gorgeous wife whom I've adored more and each and every day for over 16 years now. Life's what we make of it. We play the hand we're dealt. I never once said to myself "why me?"

Kids today are taught that being a victim is heroic and virtuous. Screw that! It's a tool they're using against us to divide us against one another, to foster dependence upon the state, and to snuff out all hope.

We take what we're given and we strive to make the world better for having had us in it. It's not a shame to be a victim, but the virtue to be had is in overcoming ourselves and our challenges.

This is the truth for me.... When it's your time there's no escaping it.

That being said when I was 18 driving from Gainesville to Tampa Fl. late at night I fell asleep going about 80 MPH then drifted to the left just in time to hit an angled guardrail just before an overpass. A single second earlier or later and I would most likely have been history, but it just wasn't my time. As it was I glanced off the rail, swerved a couple of times then regained control and kept going. That was almost 50 years ago and I remember it well.

Re: Have you cheated DEATH before?
Forgot to add.

I was electrocuted once.

That was not a nice experience.

Remember those old washing machines where you put all the clothes in the top. I think they were called top loaders

It stopped working.

The wife asked me to go and look at it.

So i go and tip it upside down to expose the electrics underneath. To have a look.

I am stood there in only my shorts with this thing now upside down, barefooted, now in a puddle of water.

I shouted to the Wife whilst leaning in to it with a Screwdriver

"Is this unplugged ?"

Don't even think I finished saying that tbh.

It was horrible, really, really, fucking horrible

My Brain was pulsing and buzzing loud, as the electricity was surging through my body. Weirdly it was like waves crashing against Rocks in my Head.

I was really lucky because my entire body locked up and i fell on to the floor.

Thank fuck there was no circuit from the washing machine in to the floor water.

I had palpitations for like 3 days solid.

Wife was like are you okay ?

And she said to me did it hurt ? wtf

Of course it fucking hurt i said.

Doctor said i was lucky i didn't go in to cardiac arrest. I would have been fucked had this happened with my wife :-)

Another life lesson learned though. I have never been electrocuted since. I religiously unplug everything. And turn off at the main box. And still check with a meter.
