As I recall, they only manufactured it for a few years, like circa 1969 - 1975.

I wonder if they got parental complaints about kids getting whacked out on breathing the stuff.

But kids always historically would find out ways to get whacked out no matter what.

Anyone remember over the counter CODEINE cough medicine? Circa the same exact time?

err umm, apparently, it is either still being manufactured or some entrepreneurial wise guy picked up on some sort of nostalgia for it. It also appears that you can only buy one color at at time of it, not the PSYCHEDELIC 60's/get high off the fumes version we had as kids.. And the former version had big tubes of the stuff, it would last a while. Now it looks as if the tubes are good for one big balloon and that's it:

Dan Aykroyd & Laraine Newman did a famous sketch the first season of SNL, in 1975-76, in which Jane Curtin interviews the unscrupulous toy manufacturer (Aykroyd) who makes dangerous toys for children. He defends his toy co. in a hysterically funny fashion (Dr. Memory #6)

I think the last time I remember it being sold was circa the U.S. Bicentennial year, 1976 at like a cheapo toy dept. inside of a Woolworth's shop. Remember Woolworth's? They started out all over America in the 1880's/90's as "The Five & Dime" stores. That was the five cents and the ten cents stores. They were the 99cents stores of their time. Woolworth's evolved out of them and became one of the biggest cheap trinket retail shops in the country (and with LOTS of imitators/competitors such as Grant's, McCrory's, Woolco & [was it] "Kreske's" mart, which evolved into K-Mart, I believe).

I had a Wham-O Hi-Yo.

I watched their Hoola-Hoop ad, one of them and prob. the fist ad for their FRISBEE! Only it was called the "Frisbee Flying Saucer!" I did NOT know that. Holy sheet! So that's how it started.

That stuff had Toluene and ketones.....hell even as a kid, I knew that shit couldn't be good to breathe.....Mimeograph ink on the other hand....

I got that in my Easter basket once and loved it.There was a kid at school that used to sell the bubbles he made with it and everybody would buy them,lol.

My grandma used to buy me a basketfull of the super Elastic Bubble Plastic that would keep me busy for hours.
I LOVED the smell of it..lol.
