I have been an on-and-off investor in physical precious metals. For years I had a network of brokers and vendors I would buy from and sell to.

This month I decided to buy some bars of silver for the first time in some years.

Nothing. Nada. Zip. Every store, every dealer, every metalsmith is tapped the fuck out.

First time this has been the case since I started buying and selling metals a decade and a half ago.

What the literal fuck?

So it looks like roughly $300 or $2,950 each for 10 oz. or 100 oz. bars respectively.....,
.
Couldn’t you instead just rush in to your local jeweler chain store and buy up that amount in silver jewelry?
Same stuff, no?

I was in one recently.
Stock under the glass appeared plentiful.......

Not the same. Jewelry is sterling. Sterling is 92.5% silver. Not bad, but youre gonna pay ALOT more than 30/oz buying it. With Jewelry youre paying for craftsmanship, nor just silver.

Bullion is 99.9% minimum silver content. Plenty available online for 30 an oz from reputable dealers.

The new bottom for spot seems to be around 25.

That clarifies it some more.
Had never looked into that market.
Given that, I’d rather shell for slvr bars over slvr jewelry as well.
Online sounds like the best source giiven the apparent localized shortages, however the homework done needs to be thorough to avoid scams or BS delays.
.
Any reputable sites listed would be a plus in here.
