When I don't sleep good for a night or 2, the next night I sleep like a baby. Or like a dead person.
But I maybe shouldn't write that.

Have a great experience!! You made the right choice by taking the train vs the bus, long trip but at least on the train you can get up and walk around a bit and transfers / connections are kept to a minimum.

Post when you can, looking forward to reading about your experiences.

I took an Amtrak in 2018 from Illinois to New Orleans. Bring a blanket. I froze to death, and it was summer. Miserable. 6 dollars for one shot of Jack Daniels. I had to do it to sleep while I shivered.

Yes, the Kool Kidz hang in the Observation Car. That's where you flirt with and talk to the women, and small talk with the interesting folks.

Drinking (prepacked) wine as the scenery flows by ...

Pretty relaxing especially at the higher speeds.

We have one conductor who is a mask nazi she actually woke me up during quiet hours to say slip your mask up over your nose... I literally got so close to telling her to fuckoff and die. .. but I wanna make it to beantown.....

Nice! Hey I've been all over Cape Ann Gloucester Salem etc... lovely area. More pics coming soon... right now I'm in the northern plains.. its nothing but dirt and grass, occasional cow . Why people even live here is beyond me.

The midwest sucks.. and some of the people I've been chatting with, who are from here... well, they're idiots. That's what happens when you live in a prairie with no culture for hundreds of miles. Majorly marginalized. I'm crabby because I want weed.

Here's one of the Colombia river gorge between Oregon and washington... it's like being in the triassic period... without all the people and stuff.. you get an idea of how the country must have looked thousands of years ago.

As someone who hasn’t traveled any real distance by rail in over 30 years, I’d love to see more of your thoughts about the entire thing. The minutia. The small pleasures, the minor annoyances, your sleep schedule, how, what and where you’re eating...all of it. It’s fascinating.

Looking forward to your postings. I am a skier and usually go West a few times a year to ski and have been debating taking the train via Chicago on one of those trips (only Winter Park, Aspen, and Lake Tahoe resorts are easily accessible by train fwiw). It will be great to read what you think about your trip as you do it and afterwards.

Glad you are taking the train vs. a bus ... MUCH easier on you imo.

Be careful at the stops if you get off. Unscrupulous types hang around to do drug deals, pickpocket your wallet, that kind of stuff.

Ok my my bad- finally got data service and were in Minnesota not far from Minneapolis.

Let me just say that I am NOT a fan of the midwest. Why anyone would live out here in the northern plains is beyond me... some yokel tried starting shit with me yesterday saying I was satanic... shut him the fuck down pretty quick. Anyway a lot of me are nice people... just a couple idiots to deal with.


Made friends with the mask nazi... just some casual conversation.. thing I'm realizing on this trip the most is.. human nature. Were all humans!

So definitely today I'll be in chicago...

Probably gonna eat at one of the vendors they have little food carts all over I guess..

I'm not paying for train food, I paid for their water and their beer. 70 bucks for.. 4 beers 3 waters and a Gatorade so far.

Oh back in Martinez on day 1 I had a lamb gyro but sadly it was done in the bizarre west coast fashion of not sticking to tradition.i are it anyway but... In boston we know how to make a gyro correctly.

So I'm not eating too much, or sleeping, but I am happy and e enjoying the trip

Moving back to be close to family & friends .
