Did you eat at a restaurant? What did you have? When I don't sleep good for a night or 2, the next night I sleep like a baby. Or like a dead person. But I maybe shouldn't write that. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1233801 United States 04/13/2021 09:11 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Have a great experience!! You made the right choice by taking the train vs the bus, long trip but at least on the train you can get up and walk around a bit and transfers / connections are kept to a minimum. Post when you can, looking forward to reading about your experiences. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 77936293 United States 04/13/2021 09:35 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Your first leg will be bus from Eureka to Emeryville? That's about 275 miles. Some pretty spectacular scenery coming down the 101, especially the section from about Garberville to Leggett. I think it's Richardson Grove where the road is two lanes and there are huge redwoods right up to the road. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76749660 My daughter just took the Amtrak from L.A. up the coast, through the Salinas Valley to Emeryville. That's just a one day trip. She loved it. Right down by the ocean for the first big chunk of the trip. There used to be something called a Club Car on trains. Full bar. Things could get crazy on long rides. I could tell stories.... It's gonna be eureka to Martinez then back north to portland. The routes have fancy names like coast starlight, empire builder, lakeshore limited... Idk it's just trains. Hopefully there will be pretty women on this thing. They do have an observation deck, I'm guessing that's where the cool people hangout? People kind of stake out those seats too. I've heard that quite a few people from coach end up sleeping on the floor in the observation car overnight. If you have trouble sleeping sitting up, you may want to bring a large beach towel or small tarp (shower curtain?) to put on the floor to lay on. I'd bet that carpet is NASTY! But four to five nights is a long time to be sleeping in a seat. :) Know what, I'm a wizard so I pack a cloak for travel... It's kind of all purpose and has the added benefit of shielding me from negative vibes or any of "dat ghey shit". Sigils. Yea I'm good to go! Only thing now is to try and sleep a few hours Need pic of the cloak |

That's where you flirt with and talk to the women, and small talk with the interesting folks. Drinking (prepacked) wine as the scenery flows by ... Hope you brought some food, OP. Enjoy the trip and keep us posted. I've never made it east of Union Station in Chicago.. Get some sleep (in one spot or another)... :fireplace: "Remember when we used to treat colds and flu with chicken soup, saltwater gargles and warm tea instead of Communism?" |

I'm north of Boston about a mile from the ocean. Nice! Hey I've been all over Cape Ann Gloucester Salem etc... lovely area. More pics coming soon... right now I'm in the northern plains.. its nothing but dirt and grass, occasional cow . Why people even live here is beyond me. The midwest sucks.. and some of the people I've been chatting with, who are from here... well, they're idiots. That's what happens when you live in a prairie with no culture for hundreds of miles. Majorly marginalized. I'm crabby because I want weed. |

Nah but they are freaking about masks so I'm just complying to avoid drama. They apparently have plainclothes TSA officers on board making sure masks are enforced... well pretty sure it's the dude in the carhart who looks like a marine wearing glasses and gawking at the crowd not very subtly. Plain clothes but.. still a cop! |

[imgur] [link to imgur.com (secure)] Hah... imagine a mountain range as if it were a tsunami... so if you stand still for a few million years that mountain might take you out! We must seem as ants to these giant gods of the land. |

The minutia. The small pleasures, the minor annoyances, your sleep schedule, how, what and where you’re eating...all of it. It’s fascinating. Thanks again and safe and pleasant travels! “A person is smart, people are stupid.” “Nobody knows until everybody knows” |

I am a skier and usually go West a few times a year to ski and have been debating taking the train via Chicago on one of those trips (only Winter Park, Aspen, and Lake Tahoe resorts are easily accessible by train fwiw). It will be great to read what you think about your trip as you do it and afterwards. Enjoy your trip and post some more pictures when you get a chance!! Glad you are taking the train vs. a bus ... MUCH easier on you imo. |

It all sounds like an exciting fun adventure until the sleep deprivation sets in. It's still better than the bus though. Love the pics. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 69644445 United States 04/15/2021 08:17 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ok my my bad- finally got data service and were in Minnesota not far from Minneapolis. Let me just say that I am NOT a fan of the midwest. Why anyone would live out here in the northern plains is beyond me... some yokel tried starting shit with me yesterday saying I was satanic... shut him the fuck down pretty quick. Anyway a lot of me are nice people... just a couple idiots to deal with. Made friends with the mask nazi... just some casual conversation.. thing I'm realizing on this trip the most is.. human nature. Were all humans! So definitely today I'll be in chicago... Probably gonna eat at one of the vendors they have little food carts all over I guess.. I'm not paying for train food, I paid for their water and their beer. 70 bucks for.. 4 beers 3 waters and a Gatorade so far. Oh back in Martinez on day 1 I had a lamb gyro but sadly it was done in the bizarre west coast fashion of not sticking to tradition.i are it anyway but... In boston we know how to make a gyro correctly. So I'm not eating too much, or sleeping, but I am happy and e enjoying the trip Moving back to be close to family & friends . Not much else to report... we are past the halfway point now. Passing theu farms now. Should have more data service today. I know I've missed a lot of replies and owe you guys more in this thread so my bad, will work on that. |
