I'm an older woman, tired of the loneliness and I am moving to Florida
I've read that there are many 55+ communities in Florida. I don't need much space and I would be happy sharing a home with a suitable roommate.

But here in the frozen Midwest, I am done. We have a moron for a governor (Pritzker) and the economy is toast from the 15-month (and counting) shutdown.

It's a big deal to pack up and move, but I'm heading down there in a few days for an exploratory trip.

Please tell me the pros and cons of Florida.

Thanks!

Most retirement communities are literally trailer parks, or ghettos for the elderly in decent buildings. The trailers in 55+ parks are actually not that bad and most are well kept if they are restricted to 55+. But you have to think about hurricanes. You'll either have to bug out early and risk being stuck on the limited routes out while the storm is coming through, or ride it out in a shelter.

Also Trinity is right. Even though DeSantis is the current political pioneer, the local governments have been infiltrated by globalists. And if you are not ready to pay someone to keep your AC tip top or learn how to keep it repaired yourself, 95F at 95% humidity for 8 months straight is brutal. Just some things to keep in mind.

South Florida is a liberal hell hole. Don't even bother going there if you can't speak Spanish.

If you're not used to 90% humidity and 95 degree weather you're going to be in for a shock.

The retirement community you're thinking of is "the villages". Basically it's a giant senior citizen swinger orgy fest. I'm not even kidding.

Get in line, there are millions of feminists, divorced ladies and those that never married because they rejected suitable husbands early on and chased "Chad" with no success and eventually they got well into their 30's and end up with a 20 something "boy toy" who doesn't commit to an older women....so there you are in your 50's with ZERO.

I would suggest Arizona over FL. As a fellow Illinoisan, who has spent time in both places, I think AZ is more conservative, sunshine all the time, no humidity, and lots of older people there too.

I know people who have moved to the South Carolina coast, and Georgia coast. They love it. If I could get my husband to move I would be on either the Georgia or Florida east coast. I live in the south so I’m used to bad hurricanes and big bugs.

Well you know Al Capone, the most famous man in Chicago history? (You're from Illinois.) He didn't live in Chicago.

He lived in Miami and only went up to Chicago when he absolutely had to be there to take care of business and keep control of his south-side mob.

Other people who can afford to have done the same, gone to Florida. Chicago weather sucks, you never get over it.

Enjoy Florida, or the other place IL typically retires to, Arizona.

Beach front is a maintenance nightmare actualy.

The salt air will eat away at it.

99% of people who own ocean front rent them 95% of the time and use them as income properties / vacation homes of their own.

Hardly anyone actually lives ocean front full time.
