Re: NBC News: Grocery Prices going through the Roof this Year
We buy a grass fed beef each year. Same price as last year. We stovk up on frozen veges on sales and have a garden and 9 fruit trees.

My wife cans tomatoes, peaches and pears.

We buy two flats of western oregon peaches each year. Part of a fund raiser for the girls HS basketball team. Sweet deal for a good cause.

We have 14 chickens. Farm eggs to gather each day. We will get a couple more hens today.

Every step of the supply chain is having trouble because of the COVID countermeasures. Even the original food sources are have issues for the same reason. Not enough food is being produced and its expensive to ship it. Supply and demand.

This was planned. 'They' want to watch us all squirm. They want us sad and angry.
 Quoting: Doctor Congo

You are correct. My company imports stuff. Supply lines are messed up all over the world. It used to cost $3000 to get a container shipped here from Pakistan. It now costs us $10,000.

Re: NBC News: Grocery Prices going through the Roof this Year
The weekly grocery bill has been going up steadily for 4 years straight with the only difference being that now the smaller packaging sizes that they have been using to charge the same price that are now finally catching up with this inflation shake down using economic warfare to solve that pesky social security insolvency issue and medicare entitlements
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80241661

Yeah best example wife and me noted on the smaller packaging - and it took a while before we noticed - was on organic potatoe.

It used to be $4.99 for five pound bag at Tops. Then eight months or so ago we were making mashed potatoes and realized the 'same' bag didn't yield as much mashed potatoe.

Pulled out a bag (which still costed $4.99) and were surprised to see it was now four pounds, not five.

Then a couple months later, when I was purchasing a bunch of bags of yellow organic spuds, I noticed how lightweight the first bag was I picked up. I looked and was amazed to see THREE pounds.

Price ? $4.99.

So in six months time or so, organic potatoes have gone up 40% in price.

Or taken another way: 40% less potatoes for the same price.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 74667243

Our block cheese sales are now 2x400g blocks for $9 when they used to be 2x450g blocks for $8. That's been since last fall/winter.

10lb bag of regular potatoes can range from $7 at Walmart to $2 at Giant Tiger.

Manufacturers regularly play with product quantity as part of their strategy to confuse consumers into thinking they're getting better deals than they are. Take a look at MyFitnessPal food entries if you want proof. The same product is available in like 10 different quantities depending on time/region.

From the article:
"Shoppers had better start budgeting more for their grocery bills, according to the latest consumer price index, which shows prices are increasing — and they’re likely to keep going up.

The monthly consumer price index, released Tuesday morning by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, showed a 0.6 percent increase in March, the largest one-month increase in nearly a decade. Over the past year, prices have increased 2.6 percent overall."

One example is bacon is up more than a dollar a pound in some major cities. Supply problems are causing most of the increases and those problems are not going away thanks to Biden and liberal state governors. And it is going to get worse.

This is a very good year for everyone to start growing a garden.

Re: NBC News: Grocery Prices going through the Roof this Year
From the same main stream article:

"Issues like higher gas prices, increasing transport costs that get passed on to consumers, especially for items like bread, are only going up as driving increases faster than oil production. So grocery prices are likely to remain on the higher end of estimates for at least the rest of the year, Olvera said. Producers may eventually increase their output in order to capture the heightened demand, but that won’t happen until toward the end of this year, Olvera said."

and

"The White House said Monday that it expects inflation to go up — and not go back down."

-----------------

So the White House and their lackeys in the media are admitting this now. They would never say this unless it is going to be much worse.
 Quoting: Doctor Congo

The price of the raw stock (aluminum, steel and plastics) I use in my machine shop are going up dramatically also. These costs get passed on to the consumers, and will be felt by the public soon.
 Quoting: Copperhead

Yep, my company sells supplies to Industry. Steel coils of strapping material to band up material for shipping just went from $71 to $113 this month. Everything we sell is going straight up!

Thanks to suger and bacon I gained the covid 20. It will be a lot easier to lose it now. I went through a 5 lb pag of sugar in just a few weeks, and that was just for my coffee. I have no idea why since now I drink with no sugar and it's just as good.

Most of us are highly addicted to suger, so much so that if you try to stop cold turkey you will become suicidal, and I'm not exaggerating. You have to wean off of it.

You also have to stop drinking commercial orange juice, that's another mistake I made during the past year. I started to drink it strait; that stuff is not real OJ, it has more sugar than soda does and artificial flavors in it.

Never waste a crisis, that can work both ways. If all of America cut back and lost the wieght, you'd see the price shoot down as well. As soon as we withold our consumer power they respond!

The world needs a lot less sugar. I'm shocked how many bakeries just opened in Nashville, as well as candy shops and new coffee shops. Sugar and carbs everywhere.

What happend to salad cafes, remember them in the 90s? They were all over the place. One palce used to make something called horts de verts or something essentially lightly tempura style fried greens to top a salad. It was so easy to get healthy food it seesm like it's such a challege now.

When Whole foods went corporate then sold out to Bezos it really spoiled the health food industry.

Read thru all pgs of comments and I might've missed it but no one has mentioned the fact that this new ice age we are entering into is going to be directly caused by all the Earth and solar/galactic changes.

I dropped in on Monkey Werx's boobtube channel to catch what was up w/ traffic reports (mainly air/sea) few days ago and he started a new report gig hitting major headlines.

He said there's like over 60 active volcanoes right now.

Yeah, that's gonna' adversely affect crops, livestock, etc in the most major way.

We need to watch how much salt we are eating also. If people would watch their salt intake a lot of weight would be lost. Prepared foods are loaded with it. People are hanging onto a lot of water weight by eating so much. Some probably 10 to 20 lbs of it.

What did you dipshits think was going to happen when real economies are being sapped and crashed on an unprecedented scale supposedly for a virus that is in effect less deadly than a common cold?

Ice age my fat arse. The intrinsic value of our money has plummeted at a shocking rate, just like what happened to the Soviet Union 30-40 years ago. There's nothing left to back up the hot air balloon economy of the West, with debt being projected on future generations that haven't been born yet. Here's your handout, and another one and a couple of billions for these multinationals, and a couple of hundreds more for those industries etc.

Et voila. Hyperinflation.

You know where or when this ends, do you?

Which often works, just as long as the people are too stupid to figure any of this out on their own.

In 1993 when the minimum wage was 5.25 hr you could buy two packs of smokes and a coke for five bucks. Now its 20 bucks for the same items.

local truck drivers made about ten an hour in 1993. By this standard the minimum wage should be 21 hr and local delivery drivers should be making 42 an hour.

In the last 30 years this is how much money the profiteers have stolen from the average worker.

Its at the point that its pointless to even go get a job.

It's always been a pound of bacon but now I see most bacon is sold in 12oz packages instead of 16oz. Maybe they are using Troy ounces now since it's price like gold? :/

Anyway, got my bacon today and came home with a pound of Black Label Hormel for $5.29. Walgreens had Oscar Mayer last week for $4 each. That's a very good price.

To save money, you can go to stores on the day they discount meat. For me, it was today. I bought a lot and it varied from $3-$5 off per pack. It needs to be used within 3 days or frozen. I buy bulk, break it up into 1lb packs and freeze it. You can save a lot of money doing this!
