Many of them are not original.
Simply inspect the mortar behind the cornerstone and see that it is not cohesive with the rest of the structure.

Its more likely slow flood (a slow rise of water) that stayed a long time. That washed mud and debris and then resettled it as the water receded.

The reason I say it was probably a slow constant flood because a sudden rush of water, like a tsunami, would have destroyed more and toppled buildings. Water is very powerful and carries a lot of force with it.
